Thumbnail Problem

Post by tempest82 »

I've searched with every keyword I can think of, and I still haven't found an answer. So, please forgive me if this has been asked before.

I'm using MovieFactory 4 to create a DVD using AVI files. Everything works fine except for the thumbnails. They won't show at all no matter what I do. When I double-click on the thumbnail template, the preview box that pops up shows the file, but it's too large for the preview and I can only see a portion of it. And even if I still try to select a certain scene, it still doesn't show on the thumbnail template. I'm not having a problem with anything else other than this, and I'm hoping that this problem is caused by only a minor oversight on my part. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Can you expand on what you mean by double-clicking on the thumbnail template.

Have you created chapters in your clip.

Okay, when I read the user manual concerning thumbnails. It said this:
You can edit your menu objects by double-clicking them in the Preview Window. Doubleclick a menu button to open a dialog box where you can change the menu thumbnail preview.
So, I did that because I thought that if I manually changed the thumbnail a scene would show, but it didn't.

And yes, I did create chapters in my clips.

When you say that the file is too large for the preview window, what are the indications of that?

When I open the preview window, instead of seeing the whole scene I'll see on a portion of it because it's way too large for the preview window. Like if I'm supposed to see a mountainous region with grass and trees as well as the mountains and the sky, I might only see part of the mountains and part of the sky because the clip itself is too big for the preview screen to show the whole area. It's seems like it's showing it in the preview window at the same size I would watch it instead of making it thumbnail size.

I hope that made sense.

Very strange. I would assume that DMF4 is confused about the video format. Maybe you could export the clip and re-import it into the project and see if the conversion process makes it behave.

First time I've heard of that one.

I tried that, and it didn't work. So, I took it to the next step and uninstalled it and reinstalled it. I think you were right about it being confused because after I reinstalled it, not only did the thumbnails start showing, but the files were smaller. Before I reinstalled, I could only fit two of my clips on the DVD according to DMF4, but now I can put 10 of my clips on the DVD.

Thanks. :)
