Why not take a 20 second clip from somewhere within your main video.
I did this a few times using Video Studio 9, overlayed a blue colour block then adjusted the transparency level so that the video became a subtle background effect.

You end up with a moving background that has some relevance to your composition.

There are lots of sites that offer looping video (not sure about audio, but they are probably also available). Anyway, here is a site that sells video loops, but posts some free ones every month:

Instead of buying theirs you can make your own for free.
Just follow Vidomans Tutorial here:

Hi Pauley,

No just creating and using it once in the timeline, it wouldn't loop. However to loop it, just render it (AVI), then copy it to the library, and drag copies of it back to the timeline.

When you create your menu(s) in DVD Workshop you can specify the duration of the menu it then starts from the beggining again - therefore the menu itself loops plus any moving parts it contains.

I guess I didn't make myself clear...

I meant a seamless loop, so that when the video ends and it plays at the beginning again, you don't see a video shift. Some people make them seamless just by alternating between a normal and a backward video, but that always seems distracting to me.

Pauley,

Yes you can do this using Vidomans method.
Create a "Vidoman" video that is lets say 20 seconds long.
Now cut in in half. Swap the halves round so that the second half is in front of the first half - now add a crossfade transition or one of the other transitions that will blend the new join together.

Because the end of this new video was a straight cut from the begining they are going to loop seemlessly anyway.

Your alternative is to fork out for one.

Sjj,
with the fade in/out method there is no need to split the video in half. Just fade in at the beginning then fade out at the end. Or, split it into the third, fourth, or whatever point of the video you want to transition. I, however, consider that to be a hack for seamless video background, as I find the fading to be distracting. This is what Ulead does on some of their video clips included in the package.

I have seen some software that will make seamless video, but, you are correct, they cost money and I really don't feel it is worth it for my home videos. The link I posted had some free seamless videos, which I thought were pretty useful. I have used some of them as displacement masks for some videos, so a fade in/out would not be useful in those scenarios either. They are not very long, but you can always attach them together to make longer ones.
