support for alpha channel

Post by moorsel »

I am considering to purchase ULEAD VideoStudio and downloaded the trial. One of the things I want to do with it is to superimpose animations onto normal videos made with my videocamera. My anymation are mostly quicktime movies with an alha channel for transparency. However when I import the movie into VideoStudio the aplha channel is not detected by VideoStudio so the animation parts that supposed to be transparant are not shown transaprant. I also tried to the same with a flash animation with an alpha channel but this didn't work either. Any ideas? Without support for this VideoStudio is not an option for me and I will not purchase it.

Hi Moorsel,

I think it should work. In fact VS9 comes with flash animations that use an alpha channel. You might try opening one of these samples up in your flash editor and check out its properties.

As a workaround, if you set the background of your animation to some uniform (and different) colour, however, you can use the chroma key option in the VS9 overlay control panel to make the background transparent.

Are you putting the animations in the main video track, or in the overlay track?

I not sure anymore what I did exactly but what I can recall is that I tried both. Which one should I use?

moorsel,

Use the overlay track for anything with alpha channels.

Hope this helps,
