Anyone know what this error message is?

Post by JETA »

I have two huge projects going for my town's football team. One of the slideshows I worked on all day yesterday. I burnt a trial DVD and after viewing it I wanted to change a few small things with panning and zooming. This is what happens.

I can get the slideshow to load. When I click on the "2 theme" tab I get a pop up that says "an attempt was made to access an unamed file past its end". After that the program usually freezes, but sometimes doesn't.

Does anyone know what to do? I've tried to contact tech support and I can't even get the message to go through. Says their server is too busy.

I've been searching the board and did find patch #3 which I downloaded. It didn't help. :(

I need to make 60 copies of this slideshow by Monday. Can anyone help?

Jeta, I don't know what causes that problem but I get the same message on the DVD that I'm working on. However, it doesn't seem to cause any problems.

I thought it could be something memory related since my slide show is pretty large - around 300 images plus lots of effects, etc. I simply rebooted my system, then disabled most of those little things running on the task bar, opened the program and it worked just fine.

I've found this program does crash quite a bit when using a large number of photos so I would suggest that each time you make some major changes, just drag the entire folder to somewhere else as a backup. I haven't lost anything yet but if anything happened to this file, I would cry for weeks. It has taken me months to do it - it's a family history/photo album combination.

Try what I did and see if that doesn't fix it for you. I did not patch mine because the date on the patch is older than the program version.

Marylou,

Thank you for your quick response. I have tried rebooting the system & that didn't work. I have not however turned everything off in the task bar.

Your project sounds AMAZING! Mine is about half the photos of yours and I did make a lot of big changes to it yesterday. I worked on it for 8 hours actually.

I'm going to go back and reread your post. Thanks again for your help. :)

I just want you to know I'm in the same sinking boat here. Just bought pictureshow 4, have almost 400 photos, about 1.5 G, 3 seconds per photo, added background music from a cd which the program ripped for me. It takes hours to process the slide show, gets so far into it and locks up. Tech support recommended a patch which I applied, hasn't helped yet. Wish I knew the cause, too many photos? I'm making an iso image at this time, don't want to waste my time burning a bad dvd yet.

I have the same problem, a deadline approaching. Does anybody know if version 3 was better?

If I don't get this thing fixed soon, I need to find another program, but don't know what program. So far, I spent $50 for something that hasn't worked on two different computers.

If I only knew the limititations of the program.

Somebody suggested I try it with a smaller number of photos, but what do I do, make two smaller dvds? Then somebody has to change dvds.

Suggestions?

Jim -

Sorry to hear about your difficulties.

Are you getting the same error message?

My only saving grace is I did burn one DVD b4 the program quit working.

This is so frustrating because Ulead does pretty much nothing to help.

I wonder if reinstalling the program would help? What I can't figure out is the problem the file or the program? Maybe both?

I've defrag'd my puter, did a system restore back a few days..... Just in case it was my machine. It isn't.

The football banquet is Monday. This is for a huge school that went to state. I just don't think I have to time to go back and redo it. Each picture was individually done to fit to the music. That alone took hours on end.

whinewhinewhine.... If anyonoe has any other suggestions on how to fix this I'd love to hear them. Thank you.

I don't think it's the number of pictures but I am wondering how much memory do you both have? When you load that file in, it loads the entire file and that in itself takes a ton of memory. I have 785mb and my file is 2.29gb in size. I have a lot of music that the program ripped from the Cd's for me as well.

About all I can suggest at this time is to try a re-install but first, make sure you uninstall what you have. Since one of you has the patch... if you didn't have any problems pre-patch, that might do it. Good luck, I know how frustrating it can be.

Last resort, but slow... is fill out a support ticket. That gets you help faster than an email. The other suggestion is to call Ulead. I'm not sure where you're located but in the USA, they have a toll-free number. It could be difficult to get through but the redial button on the phone works pretty well.

MaryLou, you are a saint! :)

I did get a response from Ulead tech support. Here is what they sent me. I'm going to study what your wrote MaryLou and then what the tech wrote. Hopefully I can find some sort of solution.

I wasn't sure what type of memory you are talking about.

Right now I have 30 free gigs of hard drive, pentium 4 processor with 2.4 mega and 512 megabytes of ram. Does this look ok?

Here is a copy of the letter from Ulead....

did a research on the error message that you are receiving and found out that this is an error that happends to any software. Right now, I can't verify if this problem is caused by the operating system or PictureShow. Let's try to uninstall and reinstall the software using the complete/clean method. Please apply the burn-fix patch after reinstalling the program. (The link of the burn patch is listed below)

Please try this clean reinstallation procedure to have it neatly installed:

1. Launch Windows Explorer and go to tools\folder option\advance setting to check "show hidden files and folders".
2. Please clean first your hard drive: Go to Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools then click Disk Cleanup. Choose the

system drive to clean (ususally drive C:) then click OK. Check all boxes for cleanup and then click OK to clean your hard

drive.
3. Go to your Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel and remove/uninstall PictureShow 4.
4. Go to "C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems"
5. Delete the folder for CD & DVD PictureShow 4.
6. Delete "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ulead Systems" (***please don't delete if you have other Ulead programs installed)
7. Go to "C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information". Delete the folder

"{1F6199F9-9BED-4B43-9E5C-8495086EE714}"
8. Click Start: Run: type "regedit", click Ok.
- Under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\, please delete

{1F6199F9-9BED-4B43-9E5C-8495086EE714} folder if they are present
- Under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Ulead Systems\,please delete Ulead CD & DVD PictureShow 4 folder
- Under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Ulead Systems\,please delete Ulead CD & DVD PictureShow 4 folder
9. Close regedit
10. Install CD & DVD PictureShow 4 again.
11. Download and install the link below.

Thank you and good luck!

Sorry not much help from me on this one, but I also have had that error occur, when I was reviewing transition and panning work, although I have just had to restart the software and it works fine again after locking up.

The big issue for me is that there are bugs in this software that are unacceptable, crashing and locking up, not very stable.

Please look into your program code Ulead, and fix it, thanks.

This is a totally stupid question I'm sure.

I need to reinstall the program. I've logged into the Ulead site and I can only find where to download the trial version or pay for the full version. Um, I already paid for this rotten program once. I'm not doing it again. Can anyone help me?

When you paid for it, you likely downloaded the program to save it on your hardrive somewhere. So where did you save it? Or did you delete the file after install.

TIP; whenever you buy software online, save and print any emails with KEY no. or codes for activating and save/backup the file on a CD or DVD and lable it and write the activation key # right on the disk.

Do a file search on your computer for this file... dps4_upgr_e.exe, this is the version that I got when I bought the softeware.

I had to completely remove everything from Ulead off of my computer so there isn't anything. I have all the information saved from my purchase, but it is all expired. I even downloaded the trial version and I can't use it. Says it's expired too.

Too Easy

recurring error message

Post by Too Easy »

Hi, I'm also having the same problems with this "access to unnamed file past its end" error message. Did you manage to get it sorted JETA? Do you still have the link mentioned in the message from ULEAD? Am getting beyond frustration - this application hangs ALL the time. I save religiously after every few tweaks - but this is the third incarnation of this project & it seems that this one is doomed again!!! AAAAAGGGHHHH I can't believe how many hours I've wasted! :( :x

Hi Too Easy,

I'm so sorry about your problems with this program. My problem was never resolved. Ulead support had me delete the program off my computer and then told me to reinstall. I was unable to reinstall the program because tech support would not help me after they told me to delete everything off.

What ended up happening is I had to go buy the program AGAIN to reinstall. I had to redo my whole slideshow, but I did have a list of the pics I used and order I put them in the slideshow.

Here is the lesson I learned. When I'm making a slideshow I save my program constantly and each time in a seperate file. That way if the last file ends up corrupt I go to the file saved b4 that one. That way I only lose a minimal amount of work.

It's sad that we have to do this & Ulead should be ashamed of themselves selling something to people that obviously has major bugs that are not worked out. Not only that, but helping someone to the point of erasing EVERYTHING and then being unresponsive.

I still can't believe I had to pay twice for this program.

Good luck and keep saving individual files of your work. When I redid the slideshow I lost I bet by the end of it I had 50 files saved for the slideshow I had to recreate.
