missing scenes when importing from existing DVD

Post by mario1978 »

I'm trying to read in the movie content of a DVD I made with Ulead DVD Workshop over a year ago. Both Video Toolbox and Video Studio 8 have a feature to do it ("Insert DVD/DVD-VR" in Video Studio). But both only show 21 scenes (chapters) from my DVD when there are actually 36. Has anyone else encountered this problem, or know what might be happening?

I haven't encountered that problem, but I have an idea of what you could try to import the video: copy the .VOB file(s) to your computer's hard drive, and rename the files to .MPG, then insert the files into a UVS timeline.

Change vob to mpg works!

I had the same exact problem, Mario, and THoff's suggestion works! :D

If I tried to insert as a vob file from the Video_TS folder (via Insert DVD/DVD-VR) I would only get the first "segment" of a particular scene, not the 5 other segments that followed. I have no idea why, other than to figure there must be something in the DVD branching logic that is confusing VS8.

But renaming all the .vob files to .mpg files (after they have been moved to my hard disk, of course) lets me "Insert Video" instead and then everything is available. Go figure!

Way to go THoff - thanks! :D

Pat,

When only 1 scene showed up to select did you quit at that point?
Because if you had highlighted the single (only) clip then after
importing the other clips may have shown up.

That is how my system imports a dvd previously created by Ulead.

Ulead doesn't import dvd's like other programs do except for playlists
created from a VR disk.

MD, Actually 66 scenes show up when I navigate to the Video_TS directory. The particular segment I wanted is in the 5th "scene." I select just this scene and put it in the timeline but it only shows the very first segment of the scene. There are many segments to this scene if you watch the DVD, each one separated by a still title frame. I think VS8 must see this title and think the scene is over so it stops capturing. :? It must not be able to tell the difference between a title at the beginning of a scene and a title within a scene, i.e a segment intro. Oh well.
