Increase the volume of a video

Post by michele »

Hello, i have a problem, in a my video acquired with a camcoder and a external microphone the the sound increase and decrease because the jack of microphone is damaged. So there is a function with videostudio or mediastudio to increase the volume when is necessary and it's possible to do it in an automatic mode?

Thank you at all.

Michele,

Have you tried to split the audio from the video and apply an audio filter such as Normalize or Volume Leveling in VS? If the problem is real severe you may have to do it manually. In this case it might be easier to export the sound (using Create Sound File under the Share menu) and edit your audio with a great freeware program called Audacity.

Hope this helps,
Ron

Hi Michele,

If you are using VS9, you can use the "rubber banding" method to alter your audio levels.

In the edit step with your clip on the timeline, click on the "loudspeaker" icon at the bottom left of the timeline.

The audio level will show as a thin horizontal line at half height on the video clip. You can click onto it and add ponts and drag it up to raise volume, or down to reduce it.

Having said that, Ron's Audacity approach might prove easier to work with, since it shows the audio spectrum for one thing, and it's a great program.
