Using VS9.
I have transferred 55minutes of video from Sony camcorder via firewire. Now I go through manually and break up the clip into multiple clips. labor intensive but otherwise easy.
Now I have a set of clips [and associated filters, transitions, etc.] and when I burn the DVD I want each clip to be a different sub-chapter -- i.e., accessable from a sub-menu list of scenes.
I follow the 'good practices' posted here and make an MPEG video file from the set of clips. Then when I go to burn the MPEG file, there is no info about the scenes. Do I have to do this twice? what a waste of time.
any tricks?

Yes - don't waste your time breaking your video up into seperate chunks - just put it in the "Create Disc" module and use the 'Create Chapters' function to create thumbnails from the one video for your chapters.
but if you really want to do it your way then create a seperate MPEG for each clip then import each one individually into the 'Create Disc' timeline - then you will get one thumbnail per clip - if you create one mpeg from all your clips together then of course your only going to get one thumbnail for the whole thing.
You may get a quicker and more meaningful reply if you post questions about using VideoStudio in the "VideoStudio" Forum .

yes, thanks but ...
thought I had posted to the VS9 forum. oops.
but tell me this -- I have tried your suggestion about using the Create Chapters button and in auto mode it creates many many times more scenes [and tiny ones at that] than there are in the clip. there does not seem to be any way to control the quality or rate of generation. any thoughts?

yes, this is my complaint
Yes, I know about adding chapters manually. but it is very timeconsuming to find the exact frame where the scenes change.
you say dont bother to define chapters in the editing phase. but I do because typically I have to apply various filters [like gain, offset, hist-eq, etc.] to SOME of the scenes.
So you see I have to go through and define separate scenes in the edit phase. Then I have to repeat this manual, time-intensive exercise in the burn stage. stupid to have to do the same thing twice. why isnt the program smart enough to hang onto the information? ULEAD listening ???
