Capturing not in color

Post by han »

I just own Video Studio 9 and I tried to capture pictures and movies from my Xbox 360.
I use S-video and I do get pictures but they all are in grey-scale .
I live in Europe so I use PAL. My Xbox 360 is setted to PAL50.

My video-card is an ATI All-in-wonder X800 VE combined TV and video card.

Please can somebody help me out where to start for getting colors in stead of grey scale?

If you need additional info, please tell me what you need more for info....
Thanks in advance,
Han.

If you are using s-video then all the components need to be s-video, so the analogue source tape should have been recorded by s-video, player is s-video compatible.
Otherwise try using composite connections, the read/white and yellow ones.
It's down to the way the colours are carried differently with the two methods.

It may also be that you have an NTSC tape and a non pseudo ntsc player.

Thanks, just got it right with the composite video (you was right about that) and used the ATI-TV application.

Suddenly I was not able to get video again, only the TV channels.
Tried to get the video back pressing the check mark. Choosed 'record in AVI' but still had 'snow' (I havent select a channel yet, only want to record from my Xbox 360).

When clicking the camera the PC resetted to DOS!
Is this a common problem?
I have no idea if I have to reinstall this applications again.... :(

I am not familiar with your card but have a Winfast TV card of my own. In VS9, when you choose the format, that is in a little box in the top left of screen. Just above it is another little box marked 'Source'. It will probably be showing something like 'ATI Card Video Capture'. When you click on the little downwards-point arrow beside that little window, is there any other choice, such as 'VCR' or 'Other device'? Anyway, if there is something else, choose it and see if you get the vcr source again.

Sorry, I am afraid I don't understand you.
I now have the VS9 (try-out version) in front of me with at the top the tabs 'capture, edit, effect, overlay, title, audio ,share'
I selected capture, but neither in the file->preferences, nor in the tools I can find what you say.
I assume I am looking at the wrong place? Maybe you can tell me what to do from the start? Thank you :)

Right. You click on the 'Capture' tab at the top. The Capture screen will then open, and in the top left of that screen, you have three choices: Capture Video, Import from DVD/DVD-VR, and DV Quick Scan. You click on 'Capture Video'. A new screen will appear, and up in the top left of that screen, you will have a number of little windows, labelled Duration, Source, Format and TV Channel, then a space for your working folder. The program may take a few seconds for it to detect what is connected to your computer. Then, in the little 'Source' window, it will probably be showing something like 'ATI Card Video Capture' and you can see a TV program on the preview screen. But if you click on the arrow beside the little window, it should list any other devices from which video can be captured, and among them should be something indicating your VCR is connected. If there is, click on it to see what happens. For example, at the moment, I only have my Winfast TV card and a webcam connected, and both are clearly indicated in that little drop down window so I can choose either one to capture from in VS9. Hope this helps... :)
