I have not been able to capture from my JVC GR-D230U camcorder to VS9 using the DV1 format. DV2 format works fine, but it tends to slow down my computer. The error I get is:
Capturing Failed:
The file created is corrupt and unusable.
It will be automatically deleted.
I have done all the patches, completely updated all my WinXP OS, removed VS9 and reinstalled it.
My computer specs are:
Athlon 3500 64bit processor
2GB Ram
ATI 9800 Pro 256mb ram
any ideas? This error is frustrating and may cause me to go back to VS8.
Thanks

You might see some clues in the Windows Event Viewer logs - there could be missing files for example. If you have the boxed retail version, you can try to "repair" the VS9 install. Although VS doesn't do a great job controlling my own JVC camcorder, I can capture DV type 1 avi.
Lots of users use a simple freeware program called "WinDV" for capturing avi, and you might consider that course. It has quite a few useful features, even though it uses very little in terms of computer resources.
Good luck!
