Can't burn at driver speed

Post by steveandbelinda »

I just recently installed a SHW-1635S (LiteOn) 16X burner. When I try to burn a project, as I did last night, it only showed burning at 6.4X . Never seen that happen with my other DVD burner SOHW-812S. I also seen somewhere on another forum about the patch for driver compatability, and downloaded and installed it. I see that it makes it possible to use my old burner. Well, I always used it before with no problem without the patch. Well,, I wanted to upgrade to a 16X, but how can I use it when it only will burn at 6.4. I used it with SonyDVD Architect3 last night, and it will burn 16X with it. I want to be able to use either Ulead/Sony. Any suggestions?
And yes I chose max burn speed, and also chose 16X. in Ulead, but didn't work. This happens with DVD Movie Factory 3, and VideoStudio 9 also.

but what speed did it say on the discs you were using ??

Wouldn't it have been better if you had posted this in the DVD forum ??

This happened to me with the LG GSA-4160b. Upgrading the burners firmware fixed the problem.

Already done it. Didn't change anything. I have since put my old one back in and it seems to be burning, but I want the 16x in. I was trying to get a Plextor PX-716A locally, but no one seems to carry that model. I can only find the 740. Wonder why, since it is supposed to be the best drive of 2005 as rated by Computer Shopper.
Even my old 8x burner will only burn at 6.4x when I am using Ulead software. I can burn at 16x with Sony software. I called Ulead about this, and he said it may be the Ulead software that will only let it burn at that speed, if the Sony software will. I find that hard to believe. I don't ever remember having this problem before now.
