Cannot Render VSP File

Post by pjensen12 »

I have been a fan of this Board since I first purchased VS7; Then VS8, and now, VS9. I always follow the recommended procedures, and have never had a problem until now. Here is what's happening:

I capture; I edit; I save as a VSP file. With a clean timeline, I open the VSP file. I click on "share" and then "create video file". I use NTSC DVD4:3. The "Create Video File" window appears.... I click "save".

Normally, this will cause my VSP file to RENDER ..... but NOTHING HAPPENS!

Am I missing a patch? Have I missed a step?? I've been away from this for while so maybe I just need a "push" in the right direction.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Dear pjensen12,

I might have missed something in your post, and give me a dope slap if I'm wrong, but it looks like you've missed out the step of rendering your whole .vsp project to a single large MPEG-2 file.

The recommended procedure tells you (no, in fact it gives you ze order, nein?) to insert the MPEG-2 file, NOT the project .vsp file at the "Share >> Create Disc" step. (and don't bother trying "Cher >> Create Disc", that's always been useless!)

Inserting VS projects would just be great, wouldn't it? I would do that all the time IF IT WORKED! Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to.

Dope slap coming up!! The poster is in fact trying to produce the DVD-compatible mpeg-2, not the disc. Mind you, I am just a little confused about the work flow as described, and this business of 'with a clean timeline'. If you had already created the project (which is encapsulated in the.VSP file), your edited project would be in the timeline. No need to close it and re-open it again before going to Share > Create Video File -- that is the suggested work flow +after+ you have produced the video file and have moved on to burn it to disc (Share > Create Disc) -- I can thus understand 2dogs jumping to the conclusion that this is what in fact you were doing. Anyway, I am assuming when you say you (re-)open the VSP file on a clean timeline, that the edited project, clips transitions, etc all reappear in the timeline. They should. Can you confirm, please that they in fact do!

I would also just like to clarify with pjensen a couple of other things. First, what does your project consist of and what are its properties. What did you capture it from and in what format? Second, when you go to Share > Create Video File, what do you select as the properties for your mpeg-2? It would also be helpful to know your computer specifications and operating system.

First of all.... sorry, 2-Dogs... my post really wasn't very clear. Ken did, however, figure out my intent. I'll do better next time.

Before I received your responses, I bit the bullet and recreated the whole VSP project. (Groan). It rendered perfectly, so I simply don't know what went wrong the first time around. I hope it doesn't happen again, but if it does, I'll be back, and I'll do a better job on my post!

Thanks again!

Hey, no problem, I'm used to it from Ken!
Glad the problem was sorted and you haven't jumped in bed with Pinnacle Studio...!
