Fade Overlay

Post by kabal2000 »

I am using VS 8. I have just begun using it, and had been using VS7 in the past. I am trying to add an overlay. Adding it is easy, but the problem I am having, is that I am inserting the overlap in the middle of a clip. Now, as I bring in the overlay, I want to do a fade of approx 3-4 sec. Where is the option to fade the overlay? I can use a filter, but the filter fades the overlay for the entire length of the overlay. I don't want that, but rather a 3-4 sec fade in, and then later a 3-4 sec fade out.

Please help..I am stumped!

Click on the clip/image in the overlay track and then up in the top left corner of your screen choose the "Motion & Filter" tab - at the top of the new pane click on the little down arrow next to the box with a 'T' in it against "Direction/Style" - from the drop down which opens with a lot of little boxes with 'T's in choose the one in the top right corner (Static with Crossfade) - Play your 'PROJECT'

If you want to use a filter then I would suggest the 'Brightness' filter which I would customise by clicking on the 'Customise Filter' icon and then set key frames for the fade in and fade out to be any length I wanted. - BUT doing it with a filter you do not get a smooth transistion from top line to overlay

I thought VS7 allowed a fade in and fade out of the overlay. Did they take that away, or am I mistaken?

Just cut the ovelay clip in three parts. First part for 3-4 seconds. The same for the last part. Apply fade in/fade out to the first and the last overlay clip and your done.
