No AC3

Help! I can't get Ac3 to work..it's not even listed when I go to share - create video file- and into custom and look at the audio codecs. When I go into tools and click codec it shows the dolby digital as well as the Mpeg (and status for both are full) , but it doesn't seem to be on my system. Does anyone know where this codec is on the system and what it's name would be? I am assumong it might be a dll file. IF I knew what I was looking for or where it should be, I might be able to fix the problem. maybe it's somewhere else on my computer..?
Thanks for any help that you can give me. Any help would be appreciated. I don't really want to reinstall again.

By any chance, are you using the trial version? It's not included with the trial version. (Apparently Dolby won't allow ANY free use of their technology.)

Or, are you using a version earlier than version 9?

It is VS9 and was the trial version. But I downloaded the updated patch and the uvs 9 content package etc. and everything is working but that...?
