Adjusting Variable Bit Rate to Control DVD length

Post by maximus01can »

G'day all,

I've been cruising around the forum here looking at stuff as a newbie and see alot of stuff regarding limiting bit rate to get the right sized DVD to fit on 4.7Gb media. Now I'm no expert, but I've always just captured what I needed. For eg., I may have had 1.5 hrs of DV that I wanted on 1 disc so I just went ahead, finished the project, saved the Video_TS and Audio_TS folders to my HD. Don't worry about burning yet and let DVDShrink do it's magic.....No guessing........it just compresses it enough to fit directly on a 4.7Gb disc with excellent results and no real visible loss in quality as well. It's a great, easy to use app. that's freeware and that makes it even better. I use it all the time for backing up my DVD's so they don't get eaten by the wee ones. JMHO, but it's worth a try. I also never burn using Ulead apps. Always saved video folders and burned with Nero. I guess all is personal preference, but if it saves someone even a little greif then it's worth the effort.

Cheers Again,

Also be aware that Nero's Recode will do much the same job -- not surprising since the guy who developed Shrink now works for Nero, apparently. But Recode, not surprisingly, has difficulty with copyright-protected DVDs.
