Removing Vocal From MP3s

Post by nt88498 »

Does anyone know if this can be done with Videostudio9 or other software. I am trying to use a specific song, but without the actual vocals. I guess it would be classified as a Kareoke song.

Most audio editors have a "remove vocals" feature. It is not perfect. It works by simply subtracting the left from right. This removes any sounds that are centered (sounds that are identical in the left and right channels), including the bass, which is usually centered. There are usually some remaining vocals, and sometimes vocal reverb which were not identical in both channels. And, the subtraction leaves you with a mono file.

I use an audio editor called GoldWave ($50). I assume that Audacity also has this feature.
