DVD's burned do not play on home DVD players

Post by Rustaferd »

I've created some DVD's using MovieFactory, but the DVD's do not play or play well on two of the tested home DVD players. Any suggestions? Any Ideas why?

I'm shure you have downloaded and installed the burning patches and fixes from the ulead website.

Such problems depends on the used media, the burner AND the used burning speed. NEVER use the highest possible speed, if you don't tested it before with the burner/media combination.

I normally use the half or two/thirds of the possible max speed and my DVD's run on all players i have access to.

Another hint:

If you already have a Nero edition 5.5x oder 6.x on your pc you can look for a tool called "IMGTOOLBURN"

This is a fine small program, which uses the Nero API to burn previously created DVD-structure files (check the second option in the burning menu of DMF) - create DVD-structure) and resort all files during the burning process and you can give more security options (DVD-ROM).

Since i use it, i never have had misburned or not running DVD's.

But be careful - there are different versions available for Nero 5.x and Nero 6.x.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Thanks for the response. I will try all the suggestions listed. I did download the patches and that made all the difference! I will also try the suggestions to burn at a slower speed.
Thanks again all!

I have the same problem. DVD burned through MF won't play on a home DVD player, but play on computers with DVD drives. Is it a format thing, encoding, or media (-R vs +R) thing?

Thanks,

It could be your DVD Player -- check here to see what format your DVD Player supports:

Also, did you burn it correctly? As a DVD Volume, and when you explore the disc, you see the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS Folders in the root directory of the dvd?

Well, I burned a dozen copies for different fire stations, and they have all said it won't read the DVD. So it's multiple different brands/models of players.

The DVD Volume shows both AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders on the DVDs. The AUDIO_TS folder is empty, while the VIDEO_TS folder has the IFO, VOB and BUP files.

Thanks for your reply. Any other ideas?

Hi,
You Dvd is probably still good if it plays in the computer.
That some of the dvd's to a store and try to play them in a
"Panasonic" Multi-Format Dvd player. Not the panasonic recorders.
Make sure the dvd player says Multi-Format.

Are you using a DVD+R disk?
You need to say what type of dvd. There are a few types.
Is it a DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW or DVD+RW.

Many dvd players will only play Dvd-r disks.
Can you also supply the make & model of the dvd player(s) that
will not play the dvd's.

That link George posted has numerous DVD players listed, it's pretty accurate too.

I just found the thread that links to the DVD label issues. Makes perfect sense with my symptoms.

I'll try a few without the labels and see if that was what was screwing them up during playback. One that successfully played in my laptop last week, started skipping this morning toward the end of the video, and now won't play at all.

Thanks! That's the thread I was referring to. I found two copies of the same DVD without labels and they play fine. It would have never occurred to me that the label was the problem.

By lables I'm assuming you mean brand name because I'm pretty sure I didn't mention that in that thread....

Try here too: http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm

Sticky Labels???

Post by GeorgeW »

Maybe means the "sticky labels" that you can put on a disc. They have been known to cause problems on DVD's...

That's strange that they wouldn't play at all -- usually the sticky labels will cause problems with playback (jerky and stuttering playback), but at least the dvd player will recognize the dvd and try to play it back. It sounded like the other fire stations couldn't even read the disc?
