Help with Downloaded Files from Smart Download

Post by maximus01can »

Hi All,

I've been cruising through the posts looking for any pitfalls I should be looking for before installing VS9.

I'm currently running VS7 and wondering if I need to uninstall VS7 before installing VS9 or will it clean up all the VS7 stuff on it's own?

I remember reading once that there was a specific order to download patches/fixes, but can't remember where I read it. Is there any substance to this?

I guess just any other information regarding the installation would be appreciated. I'll hold off till I see some response

Cheers,
Max

I assume that you have purchased the VS 9 Upgrade - so you will have to leave VS7 installed otherwise the VS 9 upgrade files won't install.

ULead recommend deleting the previous version after installation - I personally leave (all) my previous versions installed i.e. I upgraded to VS8 from a VS6 SE, then I upgraded to VS 9 - I have all three versions installed on my computer.

There were problems with installing VS8 patches when the user had de-installed the previous version - ULead apparently fixed the problem, and I assume VS9 doesn't have the problem - but there is the occasional user report on the forum that reports that when they attempt to install the VS 9 patch that it "can't find VS 9" - whether this is related to the same problem or not is definitely unclear, but my recommendation is play safe and leave your VS 7 installed.

Peter

P.S. Installing VS9 will not "clean up" VS 7 - you will end up with both installed on your harddrive in completely separate directories.

Just to clear this point up, if you install VS9 I very much doubt you will want to use VS7 again so there is no point in installing any patches etc to VS7.

As PeterMilliken mentioned, the new version (if its an upgrade) will only check to see if you have the earlier version before letting you install. You then have two completely independant versions in different directories.

Hi
I have the full version of VS 9 and therefore have not needed to use the smart download.

But as far as I know you will need the Extra Content Packs 1 to 4
These will add contents to the libraries giving you more options/ templates and menus.

The Full Spectrum 22k is needed for Auto Music Smart Sounds.

Ulead Disc Recorder is used to burn (Iso) Disc Image Files, created in VS.

The Bonus Menu Pack contains free extra menu templates. These files may need to be copied and pasted to the menu folder.

The C3D (ulead cool 3d)
Is a separate software program that you can use to create animated gif/avi videos for use in video studio.
Installs separate program to VS 9.

All the other ‘Patches’ may well be specific to different operating systems.
I would check ulead web site for an explanation of the patches.
I have learnt not to install patches until I am sure I have a problem and a need for them.

I tried installing the UVS9Full_Patch1_5in1, but this gave me problems, I am running VS 9 without.

The only other patch that is not listed is the latest Burner Update.
http://www.ulead.co.uk/tech/vs/vs.htm
Others on the forum may have better ideas about the updates.

Hope this Helps

Thanks for the input Trevor, I'm always leary about installing patches that I don't have any idea about and the follwoing fit that category

Don't know what this is?
Ulead VideoStudio 9 Hauppauge hardware devices support pack

EU05-0506-01_UVS9F_PVR150
EU05-0506-01_UVS9F_PVR250_350
EU05-0506-01_UVS9F_PVR_USB2

This file is explained in the download section, but don't know if it's necessary
UVS9Full_Patch1_5in1

Don't know what this is?
Ulead VideoStudio 9 Terratec hardware devices support pack
UVS9_AV250_Patch
UVS9_AV400_Patch

You're right, I havn't downloaded the Burning patch as of now, but I rarely burn right from VS anyway, always save the Video_TS folders and burn with Nero or shrink a little if necessary with DVDShrnink

Maybe someone can tell me about these unknown patches are and if they're necessary. If not, I'm only going to install the downloads associated with the "Smart Download" section.

Cheers,
Max

Hi Max

If you view the notes below the patch download it indicates that the patch is relevant to types of Video Studio.

Free for bundle versions of VideoStudio 9 SE.
or
Free for Retail Box and ESD versions of VideoStudio 9.

That at least eliminates half of them.

The only one dedicated to Video Studio is the firat one--- UVS9Full_Patch1_5in1
But I haven’t installed that either.

Trevor, Yup I checked the info below the downloads prior to downloading and all these are for VS9 and not VS9 SE or any other. The only ones I don't have any idea about are the following as it says nothing about them below the download with the exception of the languages associated?

Ulead VideoStudio 9 Hauppauge hardware devices support pack
"What is a Hauppauge hardware device"
I'll do a search and see it it's some sort of card for Audio/visual stuff

EU05-0506-01_UVS9F_PVR150
EU05-0506-01_UVS9F_PVR250_350
EU05-0506-01_UVS9F_PVR_USB2

Ulead VideoStudio 9 Terratec hardware devices support pack
"What is a Terratec hardware devices"

UVS9_AV250_Patch
UVS9_AV400_Patch

UVS9Full_Patch1_5in1

Enhancement:

DVD-R Dual layer support

Bugs fixed:

Fixed problem when rotating and reversing a Ulead Cool3D file on a Windows 98 SE system.
Fixed “memory insufficient” problem when adding video filters and customizing.
Fixed a problem when using Fit to Background Music and Auto Analyze Video Content when user imports MPEG4 file.
Fixed DVD player problem after installing VideoStudio 9.
Fixed behavior problem when inserting a 720*480 avi to be the first video on the timeline.

This is the one you said gave you "problems" so you're running without it and I think I may do the same unless I run into problems and I'll cross that bridge when necessary. When you refer to the "Full Version" that should not be any different than the upgrade download is it? A knowledgable guy who previously worked for Ulead told me that: "The download is identical to the box set... you just have to make sure you save the download file for future use. Save your receipt, too, in case you lose the file."

Unless you're talking about the Full version Box set for $99.

Well Cheers and thanks for the help,
Max

A Hauppauge Hardware Device is a TV Card so that you can use your computer to receive and record Television Broadcasts.
