I've become fairly proficient at importing/exporting data to Album. I also can add fields to the program database. What I haven't learned to do, or even determined if it is possible, is to get EXIF information from Windows XP into a database or spreasheet so that I can import it into Album.
One of the Album-type choices (Scrapbook, I think) has some built-in fields for some EXIF data, but not all of the data that is supplied by XP. To see the data provided by XP you can right click on a *.jpg file (e.g., in Windows Explorer) and then click on Properties/Summary/Advanced. Win XP then returns a list of useful information, including f-stop, shutter speed, whether flash was used, etc. One of the items that is included there but not in PI is the make/model of camera used. Since I use several cameras, this is one of the most important items to me.
I can export the Album information to a database and enter the camera info manually, but I currently have a database of about 8300 files and growing. This would be time consuming to say the least.
Does anyone know if the XP properties data can be exported to another software (e.g., Excel, Dbase, CSV, etc) so that I can get it into Album. In addition to that, it would be good if I could "map" the camera data to a field that I write to the album. If I can't do the mapping it's no real big problem since I can reconfigure a database to place it in an unused field.
Letting me know that this can't be done is also a good answer if so, then I'll stop thinking about it.
Thanks
Export EXIF info from XP to PI Album?

Thanks, Zlog.2log wrote:I don't think this can be done...
I'm guessing that it can be done. Maybe some specialized software is needed, which I'm willing to use if it's free or very inexpensive. The only scenario that I can think of that would make it impossible is if Microsoft uses some proprietary code that cannot be exported to another program.
I'm just hoping that someone else has done the searching for me and has an answer. Microsoft has some forums, and I may try there.

I feel your first misconception is that you think the EXIF data you see has anything to do with Windows XP. XP is only able to read and display this data but it originates from your camera.
AFAIK, the EXIF data can be exported but I have never bothered to find out how. I keep a copy of my original images, unprocessed and, hence, have always access to the EXIF data if need be.
