Failed to begin VIO playback (Report ID 2394)

Post by Stephane »

As the trial version worked very fine with my config, I purshased the MovieFactory 4 retail version. After intallation, I couldn't import any DVD file anymore:

Code: Select all

Failed to begin VIO playback instance in the import DVD preview module.
Report ID: 0x8004095a(294)
The preview is missing and if I do an import, I miss the audio track.

Other users reported the problem on this forum, but none of the fixes worked so far.

Last fix I did was to run the latest patch (4.03) and update the LXDVDParser.dll. But it did not work. This makes Movie Factory virtually useless on my config.

Any other hint? Thanks

Hi,
You can search this forum for a tech support response that someone posted.
I believe the trial version leaves files behind that conflict with the retail version. Other's have reported similar problems.

After reading other posts I would assume one has to completely remove all the remnants of the trial version (maybe also including the registry) before installing the retail version of MF4.

MF4 with the latest updates should have all the correct burning files.
The burner updates are usually if tech support tells you to install one.

I also had problems importing dvd (different types) disks and after installing the latest updates the program is working fine.

If you can't find the post I would write to tech-support.

Hope this helps,

MD

Thanks for your prompt help. None of the tricks found in the forum work... including the manual removal of all previous installations prior to a fresh install. An e-mail has been sent to tech support.

I found a workaround...

I used Windows XP system tool to restore my system to a state prior to the trial version install, then intalled the retail version. And now, the DVD import feature works again.

Yes, this happened to me too

Hi,
I have the same problem. I was wondering what might be wrong, I even contacted the Tech Support. They sent me a full version. Even that didnt work. I always got the error while trying to import DVD.
Finally, I tried installing DVDMF 4.0 on a co-worker's machine. It works great! After that I saw this topic in the forum.
Yes you are right, whenever we download and run the trial version, we wont be able to install and run the retail version successfully. I have reported this to the tech support and keeping my fingers crossed. I dont want to reformat my machine. Lets wait and see if there is a workaround.

Firstly, it is always recommended that you back up the registry before making any manual changes so you can always revert it back to its current state. You must also decide carefully before deleting anything as it is possible to completely '*** up' your computer and you would end up having to re-install your operating system. Having said this, provided you read carefully what it is you are deleting you should be OK.

You do this AFTER you have uninstalled your program via the control Panel "Add/Remove Programs" function.

1. Click the START button at the bottom left corner of your desktop.
2. In the "RUN" box type REGEDIT
This will open up the registry.
3. To back up your registry click "Registry, Export" and then save it somewhere you ca later find it and give it a meaningful name.
(you later restore the registry by double clicking the file and answer 'Yes' when prompted.)
4. To locate all ulead entries you select Edit, Find and a "find what" box pops up. You may have to repeat the search a few times using diffenet search items such as 'Ulead', 'VideoStudio'
The search will take you to the first item it finds. Look at the entry and decide if it looks like an entry that needs to be deleted. If you are happy press the delete key.
Now Edit, Find Next
Repeat this process until you get a message to say it cannot find any more entries.

If there is an entry you are not sure about, you can either leave it as it is or again click Registry, export registry file" to save that particular entry so it can be restored if required.

Thanks for this help. I was able to go through the registry and remove all Ulead info.
Then I tried to reinstall the program Movie Factory 4.
Now I still have the same problem.
Failed to begin VIO playback instance in the import DVD preview module
And then no sound in the project when you ok the warning and the show is downloaded.
I have used the same info to install this program on another computer and it works fine. There is a problem in Ulead when the program is removed and then reinstalled.
I have sent another report to tech support. They do not seem to respond very quickly.
Thanks

OK Then try this

Please copy all the files of the following folder into the DVD MovieFactory installed folder.
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ulead Systems\MPEG

Ora,
You shouldn't have to reformat your machine. That is a drastic step to take.

After cleaning the registry as previously stated there are 2 other places
to clean-up. You need to enable "Show Hidden Folders" to access the locations.

If your operating system is on the C_Drive here are the locations:

Location #1:
C:\Document and Settings\<your username>\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Ulead DVD MovieFactory\4.0

Location #2:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Ulead DVD MovieFactory\4.0

How to enable "Show Hidden Folders"
1. - Open up Windows Explorer
2. - Click on Tools -> Folder Options
3. - Click on "View" Tab (2nd tab from left)
4. - Under "Hidden Files and Folders"
- Change the default from "Do not show hidden files and folders" to "Show hidden files and folders"
5. - You should change the above back to hiding hidden files after cleaning up the system.

If your still having problems can you post how the dvd was created.
What format the dvd is in.
What is the DVD drive that you are trying to import the dvd from? (A sony dvd writer etc?)
or a read-only dvd reader.

Thanks for the Info. I all ready did this prior to going through the registry.
The DVD’s were burned on my JVC DVD burner. I understand what your are saying. But I was able to import DVD’s from this reordered earlier and I have another computer that I have installed the program and am able to record the DVD.
At this point I believe that Ulead has something in the program that prevents reinstalling of their programs. Even the ones purchased.
Or maybe the trial leaves something that prevents reinstallation with out formatting the computer. Still no response from customer support.

I would say it's also a possibility your dvd reader on the computer with the problem could be causing this.
If your on a network you can use the dvd reader/writer in the computer that works to import the dvd.
Share the dvd on the other computer and from the computer with the problem map a drive to it.
Then try importing the dvd from the mapped drive with the dvd mounted in the other computer on the network.

If it works then the reader in your machine may have a slight problem.

Also, another method recommended from tech support is to copy the contents of the dvd to the harddisk (The whole VIDEO_TS folder) and
try importing the video(s) from the harddisk. That fixed quite a few problems I was having importing dvd's.

I also have all the latest updates installed to MF4 which fixes some importing problems.

Hope this helps,

MD
