Hi speed USB 2.0 DVD Creator - no colour!

Post by Grainne_C »

Hiya
I'm copying VHS to DVD using the above programme and so far, so good EXCEPT I can't get my videos to be in colour. I've tried a few videos in the machine and tried various combos of connecting the VHS into the computer...any ideas where I'm going wrong?
Thanks in advance.
Cheers

The most common causes would be either your setup not liking an S-video connection (change to RCA composite yellow plus your audio red and white or black). Or else you are trying to copy a VHS tape set for NTSC into PAL or vice versa... Can't say more because you haven't given us enough information about what you are doing and how you are doing it...

Ken - some more info which might help

Hiya Ken, thanks for responding :D

I'm not very technical at all so please bear with me, I'll describe this as best I can.

I have yellow, red and white sockets in the VIDEO OUT section at the back of my video player (which is NTSC and which I have defined as such in the programme) and I've plugged in the males to those and connected the red and white ones up to the extra lead which is plugged into the sound card (I think the lead may be called an RCA A/V Patch Cord?) - sound is find, no problemo there.

I've attached the yellow plug into the hi speed USB 2.0 box/thingy and then plugged that into the USB 2.0 port on the front of my computer.

My computer is a HP Pavillion and was bought about 3 weeks ago.

I can certainly see the video but it is in black and white, not colour. I've tried using other video tapes incase it was a problem with the tape but it isn't. In addition I've checked the VHS machine using the telly and it defo does colour playback.

Much teeth nashing...I wanna work on my projects now not after the Belkin help line opens tmrw!!!!

I'm back with the same issue....

I used to use USB 2.0 DVD Creator but haven't for a long long time. Today I needed to convert a VHS and tried to use that old programme on my computer however it gave me error messages so I downloaded a free trial of Corel VideoSTudio Pro today.

I have the machine linked up correctly however I'm only seeing the image in black and white, not colour. I remember I had the same issue previously so looked at this forum to refer to the fix from way back when however I am unable to change PAL - this is what I see:

When I look in Projet Options I see it is set to TV Standard: NTSC non-drop frame - there is no option for me to change that section whatsoever as it is greyed out.

If I look i Settings, Preferences there is an option to apply colour filer which allows me to change between NTSC and PAL however switching between the two there makes no difference whatsoever.

Perhaps the trial version is NTSC only or maybe someone can give me a heads up?

Thanks...and sorry for revisting with the same problem!

First, when you install the program it provides you with the option of NTSC or PAL, and also the region/country in which you are located. If you are working with MPEG video files, or wanting to create a video DVD, then you can change it in the Share step, Create Video File>Custom. Then press the Options button, and go to the Compression tab. For Media type, select PAL DVD.

You can also create your own template, that will be available in the menu choices for the Create video file. Go to Settings, Make Movie Template Manager. In the dialog that opens press the New button. Now select the file format you want from the drop-down menu. For burning DVDs I would
select MPEG files. Next provide a name for your template. In the next dialog window that opens, go to the Compression tab, and for Media type change it from NTSC DVD to PAL DVD. You can also change some of the other settings if you wish, like the audio, from LPCM to Dolby. Once you're finished click OK and Close. Now you can access this in the Share>Create Video File menu.
