MF 4 Trial cd

Post by Ladislaus »

Novice, trying out trial version. Initial warning 'key error' appears but ignored and clicked ok to continue. tried to copy DVD-RAM to PC. Things moved smoothly till DVD RTAV was selected and clicked OK.Everything froze after that. Could it be the DVD-VR capture drive is disabled in the trial CD. What is 'key error' and how can that be resolved. All help much appreciated. Thanks :(

"key error" could be a rgistry or component error. try removing DMF and remove any traces of it in the system (registry, files/folders, etc).

Try reinstalling the software. if you have antivirus or antispyware running, try disabling them so you can be sure nothing is filtering the files to be installed.

DVD MF 4 Trial CD.

Thank you Ploggy.

Being 'universally' novice the bizzare question is, do I uninstall all of the following 3 programs appearing, before re-installation?:
1. Ulead Data add 2.0
2. Ulead DVD M.Factory 4.0 disc creator TBYB and
3. Ulead Player 2.0

Is DMF you mention same as DVD Movie Factory? Thanks again.

I don't think your problems have anything to do with trial-version limitations. The main trial version limitation (the only one I know of) is the lack of Dolby AC3 support. Apparently, Dolby won't allow any free use of their technology.

I believe the trial version has an anti-piracy "feature" that prevents you from re-installing it. I don't know what the secret registry entries or hidden files are... The only way I know of to "remove all traces" is to reformat your hard drive and reinstall Windows. :(

Several users have had trouble importing video from DVDs and DVD-VR DVDs. I'm not sure if anyone has found a solution, but if you search the forums for "DVD-VR" you will find some discussion, and maybe a solution.

Yes.

Even when you get the trial version working importing DVD-RAM
may be a slight problem. It depends on if you have a ram writer
or a dvd that can only read ram disks. I think if you have a dvd-ram
writer it will import the disk but a reader will give you an error.

To get around the error copy the contents to the harddisk and
import the dvd from the harddisk or share the dvd drive and
map back to it using MS networking. Then import from the new
shared drive letter.

This error was fixed in the updates to MovieFactory-4 but you can't
install the updates to a trial version.

Hope this helps,

some people here say that installing a TBYB (trial) and unlocking it or buying the full version can make the program unstable.

i think there are some components left from the TBYB that's causing this to happen.

Hi,
I've never used/installed the trial version and started with MF3 disc creator full version.
Purchased MF4 full ESD from ulead and couldn't import dvd-ram disks without getting an error. I would then open up MF3 (with all the updates) and import the same dvd without problems.

After installing the latest updates to MF4 it imports without problems. MF4 is working good on my machine.

I was one of the first to purchase MF4 when it was released so I reported the problem(s) to tech support and we responded back and forth. I had no problems with tech support and they were very helpful.

As instructed by ulead before they released the update that fixed the error was to copy the dvd contents to the harddisk.
I then tried MS networking and discovered that re-mapping the drive also worked. Direct access (opening) to the reader was generating the error. Must have had something to do with copy protection maybe.

I've been using a "Lite-On" reader to read or play the dvd-ram disks.

Hope this helps,

MF4 trial CD

Post by Ladislaus »

Judging from many helpful comments, the trial CD or the full version, would not work without updates, which will take 4 hours minimum to down load from site 1 and 2. and also looks as if one would need MF3 as well with its updates.. This defeats the purpose of the CD, namely to ascertain if the software would work as it is. I also understand one could not update a trial CD and strangely Ulead has no technical support for trial CD.
This is all confusing for a novice like me and I think I may be chasing a shadow. Can any one please advise if I should go the ulead way? Thanks.

It's up to you if you want to take the $100 gamble. Personally, I wouldn't unless I had other uses for the software... using the features of the trial version that do work.

But, I'm not sure what your alternatives are... Last time I looked, Pinnacle didn't offer trial software. Adobe and Sony did, but these are in a different price range.

The "key error" message means your DVDMF version is not installed properly. It does not matter if you are using a trial or full version because when a full version is not installed properly, the message will also pop up.

For full version, just remove and install it again and it should work then. For trial version, there is nothing you can do unless you do an clean install of Microsoft Windows because trial version might get expired immediately if you reinstall it.

Although Ulead does not provide support for trial versions, you can still send your questions to Ulead.

Hope this helps.
