Excruciatingly Long Video Conversion Times

Post by RobKnight »

I've been creating a large project - about 2hrs long split over 2 DVDs.
Ive gone throught the share process and created all my chapters and menus. When I Create the output VS7 takes between 10 - 12 hours to convert the video and burn the DVD. I am currently burning Disc 2 and its been going for 12.5hours and is still not finished.

I have done this straight from the video studio project, without rendering. I now realise that this does not comply with the recommended proceedure in the top post.

My system is P4 3GHz + 1GB Ram.

What's your source video file format? ie:Format, data rate, and field order? And what's your Disc creation format and compression? Please be sure they are the same, hope this helps.

That seems really slow no matter what your format is, especially on a PC with your specs. My P4 is 2.8GHz and the render time tends to be about twice the finished running time to go from AVI to MPEG (that is, 2 hours to convert a 1-hour video). It probably helps that I have 1Gb of DRAM, but even so...
