uvipl.dll problem - Video Studio 7SE Won't Start

Post by FoolishGoat »

Hi,

I'm new to the program. I just purchased a small mustek dv5200 camera and this software was bundled with it. I have a couple of issues. Significantly, the Ulead Video Studio software won't run. On clicking the program icon the program tries to launch, and I get an error saying something about the program not initializing, further to that it tells me in a second dialog that the uvipl.dll won't open and to examine the dll to determine the error.

I"m running win 98 se on a pentium III with 96 mb of ram on an IBM 380XD with MMX. Not entirely ideal but it should work, albiet slowly.

I've done some reading here but I haven't found a solution that works for me. I've tried replacing the dll, I've tried renaming one of the PX dlls to M5, neither works. I've also uninstalled and re-installed the program but it gives me the same error every time. Can anyone recommend a solution?

You don't say what flavour of PIII processor you have, but with only 96MB of RAM, you are already below the minimum system requirement for VS7 of 128 MB RAM. Other requirements include at least an 800 MHz PIII processor and at the very least, 4 GB free hard disk space. The latter is, of course, ridiculously small when thinking of DVDs which require about twice this space just to produce one. And if you are capturing DV format, then you will require at least another 13 GB per hour of DV... Your monitor resolution also has to be set at at least 1024 x 768, and that is another one you cannot go lower than or VS 7 just won't load...

Sorry, but it sounds as though you were unwittingly just asking for trouble by trying to load a video editor - which is a very demanding program even when nothing else is running - on to an under-resourced computer.

I'll jump in here and add to Ken's wisdom and advice.

When I first tried to edit video, I had (and still do) a Gateway PIII 500Mhz Intel MMX, with 512 MB RAM, 10Gb HDD. With Ulead VS5 it was extremely slow to the point of not worth the effort. With only 96MB RAM you are doing good to run Win98. I still run it on the Gateway. My wife uses it for email, typing receipes, and playing games. And I rebuilt it to it's Maximum, 800Mhz processor, with 2 HDD, total 50Gb storage and an ATI-AIW 64Mb vid Card. I still would not attempt to edit video on it now. Just too demanding on the system.

Hi,

Thanks for the quick response. Your information does explain a lot. I knew when I got my little laptop that it was an older machine, and not particularly powerful. The display is 800 x 600 by default, and I believe the processor is an intel 233 mhz. I'm pretty pleased with it and it does what I want. I'm aware of its "shortcomings" in terms of not being the latest and greatest.

All I want to do is edit (truncate) the short little video clips I've been making 1-10mb and join some of them together. I'm not really interested in making long movies. I guess I'll have to look into finding an editor that will work within the parameters of my hardware and software. If I find an alternative image editor I'll post my findings here.

Many Thanks,

Greg

Ulead Video Studio 7 SE uvipl.dll getlibversion crash

Post by FoolishGoat »

Hi, Here's a little update:

Sadly, I was unable to get Ulead Video Studio 7 SE to work at all on my laptop. Frankly I'm a little disappointed at not being able to run the software bundled with my camera. I was never able to solve the getlibversion uvipl.dll mystery. From searching the net however I've discovered that I'm not the only one with this problem. So I've decided to look elsewhere.

After a little digging I was able to find some free software applications that would work on my machine. I'm only editing small files (under 10 mb) with the intention of making VCDs.

My camera records in the ".asf" format. At http://www.videohelp.com I found everything I needed.

"TMPGEnc" to convert the files to ".avi" for editing in "Virtualdub_1.4c-ASF". TMPGEnc will also convert the files to Mpeg1 which is what is needed for making the VCDs.

Virtual Dub has ASF/WMV support, but I havent' fully explored this feature. It edits avi format nicely.

VCDEasy will make VCDs with mpeg1 files.

Maybe this post is a little off topic in pointing elsewhwere for digital solutions, but in my opinion Ulead Video Studio 7 SE is not very backward compliant or bug free. Not everyone has the latest and greatest PC. Clearly from the long list of complaints here its unacceptable software. My advice is that if you can't get it to work look elsewhere for better software. Video Studio 7 SE is not worth the time or trouble. If I've offended anyone, well thats just the way it is. I'm entitled to my own opinion. If you can get it to work good for you.

No need to bash VideoStudio. If your hardware doesn't meet the minimum requirements how can you expect the software to work correctly? It won't...period.
