Having problems with Overlays

Recently installed UVS V8 (SE DVD) on my PC and was working quite ok until the past few days. Each time I try to use overlays, my system crashes on me - have a P4 with XP Pro and 2 HDDs (20Gb and 40Gb). What should I do resolve this very annoying problem otherwise its dragging most of my projects.

It would be useful to know exactly and in detail what steps you were taking when using the overlays, as well as the properties of the project you were trying to add the overlays to.
