Deleting Files

Post by Slick »

Because I work on a laptop with limited harddrive space I wish to delete all the files from a project after I burn a couple of discs. I would like to make sure I'm doing this in a complete and efficient manner. As I understand it, I must first select each clip in the library using the shift key to highlight each file indiviually, Then delete the batch of highlighted clips. Then I must go back and delete each icon which represents these individual clips. Am I doing this correctly and completly? Are there other things that need to be deleteded to clear my harddrive of a project and is there a simpler way of accomplishing this task. Thank you. I'm sorry for perhaps posting this twice, I'm not sure it was posted in the correct forum. Hopefully I will get better at this as I become more familiar with this forum. Thank you.

I think you may be just a little confused there. For consecutive files, in the VS9 library pane, highlight (left click) the first clip you want to delete. Press the Shift key and then highlight the last clip you want to delete. All the files to be deleted in between the two should then become highlighted. Press DEL + Shift Key (again) and the icons will be removed from the library AND you should receive a little pop-up asking if you also want to remove the original files from the computer. Accept that and they should all be totally removed.

If you are wanting to remove a number of non-consecutive files from a larger set, then you highlight the first, then with CTRL pressed, you left click on the selected files one by one. All the selected files should then be highlighted. Then click DEL + Shift to remove them all.

You will also need to delete the project file (xxx.vsp).

If you are using VS 8 and earlier versions, you only need to do the first part of the above and then press delete alone, as those programs automatically delete the original file with the library icon -- a process which caused some consternation amongst those users who thought they were only deleting the icons. This is why Ulead changed it around for VS9.
