Reverse

Post by dcampog »

Hi everyone,

here is a link for another nice free little tool for reversing uncompressed avi files that I found :

http://www.xander.free.fr/video/softs.html

It's in French only but it's extremely simple and shouldn't be a problem to use it.

Hope it helps.

Hi
I have tested the Avi compression from VS 8.
I made a separate file for each, the following work on Vtoolbox.

No compression
Cinepak
Intel 5.11
Indeo 5.11
Huffyuv

These loaded but had errors.
Dv type 2
Mjpeg

These were unsupported.
Dv type 1
Microsoft rle
Microsoft Video

Hope this helps

For those still having difficulty,

I suggest that you do a trial with an .AVI file that does work (anyway for me). Use one of VS8's own sample Video like 'V01' which is a countdown from 5 to 1.
(1) Insert it by using the 'Input AVI' button.
(2) Give the 'Output AVI' button a folder location for the new reversed/saved file. (contrary to my advice item number 2 above).
(3 to 6) Continue.

Hope you all, especially julia_lunquist_84 get it to work.

In case anyone is interested, below is a rough trnaslation of Mr. Horst's VToolbox's web site. I hope this is helpful,
Erock :>)

History:

15.05.2002 Initially version 1.0
02.01.2003 Removes old beta versions (< 1,00)
Tip to Pinnacle studio 8.0
01.02.2003 Beta version 1.01
Horizontal and vertical reflection function extends
-> super of effects with fast Schwenks < -
09.03.2003 Beta version 1.02
English implements
19.04.2003 Beta version 1.03
Split screen function; Overlay is not made smaller

19.04.2003 Beta version 1.04 (and directly still one afterwards)
Overlays with 32 bits depth of shade are now also processed
Note: Not all codecs know 32 bits depth of shade!

09.05.2003 Release version 1.10
Language support
German, English and Dutch

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Note:

VToolBox is now in the final 1,0 version available. Further developments are not planned. However I will still give some time support and will also correct, if it should be necessary, existing errors.

Thank you to all, which supported me when testing.
Much fun to all the others, which simply only use VToolBox.

HP: No rule without exception: If I have times again much time and desire, I will implement also still the Data processing Encoder. . .

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Introduction:

VToolBox is to be produced an aid programme around different effects in AVI files.

Available functions:
- film backwards to run leave
- horizontal reflect (all, link half, right half)
- vertical reflect (everything, upper half, lower half)
- audio support (also backwards!)
- picture in the picture overlay (maximally 10 overlays)
- retarded start and adjustable duration of the overlays
- starting point overlays in basis the AVI
- frameworks around an overlay put to specify, color and width
- overlay increase - > edges cut off
- quick OVERLAY positioning
- shop and memory of all attitudes

VToolBox is developed and tested under W2000 (also W98SE).

Zukuenfige functions:
- case interest exists, also a version in English
(does not seem to be present however)
- if necessary still the Data processing Encoder implement (after final 1,0)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Operation:

1.: Inputs AVI select

2.: Outputs AVI select

3.: Effects select
Note:
For certain effects (backwards and horizontal) VToolBox must know whether it concerns a Interlaced AVI or not. Normally always is advice of video cameras interlaced. If Interlaced is not correctly adjusted, then one sees this immediately at the output AVI, however only with the view on the television. Fast horizontal movements ruckeln strangely and the scene works in a diffuse way.

Overlays:
To maximally 10 overlays can be embedded into the basis AVI. The highest priority has overlay 1, which has lowest priority overlay 10, i.e. these overlaid by all other overlays.

4.: Codecs for compression select
Note:
Not each codec is suitable to compresses, it gives then a "ERROR: Calling ICSeqCompressFrameStart "error message. If no codec is selected, then the converted output AVI is unkomprimiert stored, i.e. without quality losses. However here larger data sets arise, to about 30 MT/SECONDS!

5.: START for starting the conversion

6.: ... wait...
Note:
The conversion procedure can be broken off at each time with stop, the output AVI is then up to this time in order.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Installation:

VToolBox does not need to be installed; after that unpack from the ZIP file is immediately executable it.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Admitted problems and restriction:

- data processings AVI files more largely than 1GB cannot be read (problem of the MFC VfW API)
- other AVI files more largely than 2GB cannot be read (problem of the MFC VfW API)
- it is implemented a Play function, but is not optimalisiert these; for this purpose there are better programs
- it becomes the 1 only in each case. AVI video, and/or the 1. AVI audio Stream of the input advice read
- the overlays are synchronized picture way, no time synchronisation

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Error, comments and suggestions:

Errors, comments and suggestions can be sent to me.
In the event of an error, ask as much as possible details; e.g. everything which under file info. is indicated and which VToolBox version number.

Since I in my spare time on this program works, it can last possibly already times somewhat, until I answer.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Versions:

the 01,10 releases (9.05.2003)
Extensions:
- language support (German, English, Dutch)

Errors repaired:
-

01,04 beta (19.03.2003)
Extensions:
- one supports 32 bits depth of shade in overlays

Errors repaired:
-

01,03 beta (19.03.2003)
Extensions:
- Split screen function, overlay is not made smaller

Errors repaired:
-

01,02 beta (9.03.2003)
Extensions:
- English implements

Errors repaired:
-

01,01 beta (1.02.2003)
Extensions:
- extended horizontal and vertical reflection attitudes

Errors repaired:
-

the 01,00 releases (15.05.2002)
Extensions:
- shop and memory of all attitudes

Errors repaired:
-

0,95 beta 1
Extensions:
- adjustable framework color and framework size for overlays
Note: When converting can by the small picture resolution
narrow framework in the preview window not to be always correctly represented.
In the output AVI the framework in any case is present.
- around picture errors in the boundary region, an overlay knows overlays to eleminieren
something to be increased, i.e. the edge is cut off.

Errors repaired:
- if a AVI only a Frame (with audio) contains, then VToolBox fell
- Huffyuv codec led to the failure (Huffyuv codec does not go with S7 unfortunately)
- under unfavorable circumstances it could with some codecs to isolated
Image interferences come; rather much time cost me a Workarround
to develop.
The causal problem was because of the combination of W2000 and the A7V133 of ASUS!!!

0,9 beta 2
- improved Reverse quality (thanks at Wouter for the references)

0,9 beta 1
- clear improved overlay adjustment possibilities
- simple auxiliary function (Tooltips) implements

0,8 beta 1
- picture in the picture overlay (maximally 10 overlays)

0,7 beta 1
- audio support (also backwards!)
- improves Interlacefunktionalitaet

0,6 beta 1
First beta version with:
- film backwards to run leave
- horizontal reflect
- vertical reflect

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tip to Pinnacle studio 8

Users of Pinnacles studio 8 get the possibly following error message, if they try one with S8 provided AVI to load:

ERROR: StartVideoRetrieve
Unknown quantity Codec(I)
Format 720 x 576 x? (dvsd)

The problem is to missing data processing because of the codec. This is not no more needed with the installation by S8, since S8 uses the ms DirectShow interface. VToolBox uses the VfW interface.

There are several possibilities of going around this problem:
- 1.: Installation of a VfW data processing codec or
- 2.: Use the HUFFYUV codecs
- 3.: Unkomprimierte AVI expenditure

Installation of a VfW data processing codec:
There is different data processing codecs. Most are kostenpfichtig. A data processing codec version to test gives it with Main Concept. A small Logo writes this data processing codec into the provided AVI.
A further possibility does not offer in the meantime any longer refugee data processing codec of Panasonic to that. It circulated still in the InterNet and can be downloaded here.
I have however no experience whether there are any side effects when using another data processing codec!? Short tests were anyhow successful. I personally would prefer however possibility 2.
Tip: If the pertinent INF file is to be used for the installation, then I became everything "dvsd" stringers through "e.g.: "dvsx" stringers replace.
Supplement: In the meantime has I unite marks with the Panasonic data processing codec worked. Both with the VToolBox, as well as with S7 no problems arose.

Use the HUFFYUV codecs:
Contrary to S7 S8 can co-operate now also with this codec
This codec has the advantage that it works lossless. The somewhat higher data stream is unfavorable; for instance 10MB/sec contrary to 3,6MB/sec with data processing the codec.
The HUFFYUV codec can be downloaded here.
The installation been made by the job >rechter Mausclick on HUFFYUV.INF >installieren
Note: The HUFFYUV codec can, how many other codecs also, only 16 and 24 bits depth of shade to process!

A short description follows, how with the VToolBox a short AVI for S8 can be prepared. Both programs can be and not affect at the same time opened itself mutually.

In S8:
And entsprechende(n) the Szene(n), which runs, works on e.g. backwards soll(en), opens new project.
File provide >AVI attitude >Alle codecs mark >Kompression >Huffyuv v2.1.1->OK
AVI provide >Filename: CLIP_1_HUFFYUV

In VToolBox:
Input AVI: CLIP_1_HUFFYUV.AVI
Output AVI: CLIP_1_HUFFYUV_REV.AVI
codec >Huffyuv v2.1.1
Backwards mark
START

Optionally in S8:
The CLIP_1_HUFFYUV_REV.AVI provided by VToolBox can be used problem-free in S8. If the rendition ruckelnde in the preview disturbs (advice comes) by the higher data set of the HUFFYUV, can the AVI von S8 also into data processing a conformal AVI is converted:

New Project open and CLIP_1_HUFFYUV_REV.AVI load
File provide >AVI attitude >Kompression >DV Encoder >OK
AVI provide >Filename: CLIP_1_REV

CLIP_1_REV can be used then in S8 projects.

Unkomprimierte AVI expenditure:
Also this possibility is offered in S8 in the last beta (8.5.5); VToolBox can do this always;)
This method is likewise loss-free, but connected with a data arising of for instance 30MB/sec.

I appreciate your rooting me on, but unfortunately I was unable to get this thing to work. The other program that someone posted in this thread I was able to get work though. Thanks again for trying to help me out.

Just some feedback on the resulting "reverse" file that came from using the Vtoolbox. The final product of about 45 seconds of video (originally maybe a 50mb file) was a 1.5 GB file! It works. I've got the reverse footage I wanted, but lordy! I had no idea the output would be so big. How did the french program output look?

Ponderer,

If I understand your question correctly, I looks as if you're saving your 'reverse' file with codec button set at 'no compression'.

I took a 30 second 'cinepak' compressed 67MB file and ran it through VToolBox's reverse firstly selecting codec 'Cinepak' and ended up with a brilliant result at 66MB.

Hope that helps, JB 8)

I've played around with Vtoolbox, too. I've noticed that how fast it renders also depends on the codec used for the original. Just like ANY conversion, file size will vary depending on the original file codec and the output file codec. I sort of wish the program defaulted to using the same codec as original file or had some sort of 'smart' rendering, ie., no re-rendering at all. Just reverse the clip.

When the file I input was DivX and the output was anything else, the rendering was REALLY SLOW.... like less than a frame a sec. Dv AVI in and DV AVI out seems to be relatively fast.

I tried the VToolBox and the version has language selection.

If anybody is adventurous enough, try AVISynth http://www.avisynth.org, a script based video processing tool to work on avi files.
