Relinking doesn't work "module cannot be found"

Post by spurrymoses »

I loaded an old project file recently and 'relinked' it to my 3GB raw .avi file.
It went smoothly but MSP7 doesn't show the clip in 'fimstrip' mode (despiting setting it) and when I go to preview any part of my film, it shows an error saying "The specified module could not be found". [17103:5:1]

So what could the problem be? If it told me what sort of 'module' it was looking for, I might be able to help it.

Sounds like the avi file may not be the right one or has been changed, as a guess. Is this file the ONLY one in your project? It may be lacking something else.

Can you temporarily bring in the whole avi file on an unused track?

Hi thanks,

Yeah, my project is comprised of only the one video file - apart from some photos (jpgs) at the end.

The file is copied directly from the same DVD-R I copied it from in the first place. It's exactly the same file...I removed the read-only flag, I'm not sure what else it thinks is the problem.

MSP7 shows filmstrip mode, but it fails to render any thumbnails at all and the strip is entirely black.

To answer your question: I can't drag the video onto a spare track - without the same problem that is. It seems to think it's a crap file in some way ;-) But I just noticed, MediaPlayer only plays sound when I play the AVI file using it... so there is something else fishy going on here.

Well, "VLC Media Player" can play my video file but WindowsMediaPlayer can't. Something might have gone astray with codecs or something.
I'll keep on going - boy this is fun ;-)

Looks like my codec was misconfigured...

Uninstalling the WinAVIConverter program had removed my "dsvd" codec. I was able to determine this by using the Codec tool GSpot

See this blog for a description of the same problem (albeit using Adobe Premiere) http://weblogs.asp.net/jld/archive/2004 ... 54865.aspx

Unfortunately, MSP7 is the only software remaining that doesn't seem to have worked out that my DV codec is now in working order ;-)

I've installed another DV codec. Now, playing the video in Windows Media Player, or any other program, plays fine. The system is fixed, the codec is set correctly.

But, MSP7 still shows a black bar for the film clip and plays only sound (Note the 'not found module' error is now gone).

I'd like to document my final solution for this: After trying to install various other DV codecs and getting nowhere, I reinstalled DirectX - as soon it as it finished installing, I ran MSP7 and voila... it works!

The only thing left is my new-found disdain for Windows' system of codecs... and how other programs can so easily destroy it.
