Can't hear sound on project

Post by Timo »

HI. I am using Ulead VideoStudio 7 SE. I have been able to edit some clips and put together a rough cut of a small project. The problem is... I can't hear the sound on my project when I play it back. My speakers work, I hear sound on the internet, my games, music, etc. but for some reason when I play back my edited project, I can hear the sound in the clips! I am sure this is a very simple answer but I can't figure it out. Please help! Thanks.

Pleae update your profile with your system specifications.
Include in your reply what the source of your video is, how you imported it into your computer etc.

It may be that you are importing AC3 (Dolby) which Video Studio 7 does not support but without the above information we are fishing in the dark.

I hear you. Just not a very technical person so not sure how in detail I can go.

Using VideoStudio 7 SE. I am an actor looking to put together a one min demo. I have loaded and saved 5 of my acting clips into a project on Videostudio. One clip I downloaded (or uploaded) direct from a DVD of the actual film. 2 Clips I recorded on DVD with a Go DVD recorder from the televison show, and 2 clips I recorded on VHS tape from the television show, then transfered those clips to a DVD using the Go machine. Could it be in Dolby? Maybe, I really dont know. I have used Final Cut about 5 years ago and the sound wasnt a problem. I just assume (yes, I know I shouldnt assume) that the sound will be there as is the picture. I am using windows xp, pentium 4, 2.6 mz. ANY suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi

Right click the Video Clip in the timeline and select properties,
What are the Audio Attributes? (Digital Dolby?)

Check your PC’s sound properties, make sure ‘Wave Balance’ is not muted.

The properties on my clips say "Dolby Digital Audio 48000 Hz.

Also, where do I find my PC sound properties? Not sure where that would be.

I have heard (I think) that Videostudio 7 Se will not support dolby. But, my Canon camcorder records (I think) in dolby and I can upload and edit clips directly from my camcorder with no problem. Perhaps I am wrong about my camcorder being dolby though. It is an Ultura model. Thanks for all the help in advance!

Blurb on the Canon Ultura: "The Canon Ultura sports PCM digital stereo sound that lets you choose between 12-bit and 16-bit audio modes." So it's not Dolby AC-3. As we have said, VS 7 simply can't handle Dolby. VS 8 did so with an optional plug-in, and VS 9 has AC-3 support built in. There was a free third party plug-in which would at least allow you to download from Dolby sources, but you could not then re-encode back out to Dolby. I have in any case lost the web address for this free plug-in, but maybe a Google search might find it. Also note that I am not sure if it worked with VS7 either.

I suspect the back up file is here:

C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio\9.0\pfm.dat

(Substitue username with yours)

If you start a new VS9 project and go to preferences and set the auto save to 1 minute, you will notice this file gets updated every minute, hence my suspicion this is the automatic backup.

SJJ1805 -- I think you inserted this in the wrong thread, but it was aimed at me, and I found it, so thanks!
