Hi,
There is one thing that has always had me confused when using ulead products encoder settings.
Working with audio and using SMPTE time_code one always sets up the timing for NTSC as
29.97fps Drop-Frame (As posted above this is very important).
But, when you go to the "Advanced" page for the encoding features the program always defaults to "Non-Drop Frame"
and is the ulead encoder actually using this setting if you change it to "Drop Frame". (I think so)
Because I always manually change it to 29.97 Drop Frame before encoding.
Most of my recording(s) are created in dv.avi format. Then exported via firewire port to a dvd recorder to perform the actual mpeg2 creation in "Real_Time".
So the hardware in the recorder converts the dv to mpeg. Nice encoders in the Sony units (12bit 108Mhz video sampling A/D converters).
Then to create custom dvd's etc import the dvd back into the computer and get the mpeg2 file that was hardware compressed on the dvd recorder. Recording in the -VR mode also allows re-using dvd-rw's.
Never a sync problem aftter switching to this method.
Hope this helps,
MD

Hi MD,
Are you connecting via firewire port on your computer directly into the firewire-in on the standalone dvd recorder?
If so, which model is that -- because I have been looking for a dvd recorder that will allow me to connect directly from my pc (using only a firewire cable between the computer and the dvd recorder)
Thanks,
George
