Audio File Too Large

Post by Hobknob »

I have a few large (300MB+) mp3 files that I want to edit by splitting them up. However, whenever I try to load one, I get a message that says the following: "Insufficient disk space or disk is write protected. 6031:3:3" I'm using Mediastudio 8.0.

Is there a limit on the size of a file I can edit, or am I missing something? Small files load ok, but not big files. Thanks for everyone's help in advance!

i apologize, but i'm not terribly computer literate. i'll try to answer as best i can:

subject: message says "insufficient disk space or disk is write protected"

tha above answers nature of problem...it won't let me load large mp3 files

properties of source files: large mp3 file (recorded streaming audio). recorded with free hi-q recorder

what devices are used: not idea how to answer this question

output format: mp3...all i want to do is break large files into smaller files so i don't have one long 19 hour mp3

pal or ntsc: no idea what this means

error code: i think it was 6031:3:3

pc info: dell 4800
ram = 1.25 GB
3 ghz
80 GB HD

sorry i can't put in more, but as i said, i'm not terribly computer savvy. thanks

At the best of times, MP3 audio files can be very hairy. If you 19 hours of audio on one file, I would think most programs would baulk. I suggest you use a specialised audio software to break it up into manageable sizes and convert it to WAV to put in your timeline.

I suggest you try Audacity (free) which is specifically MP3 enabled but I have no idea whether it will handle a 19 h file: if it does, you can be sure that you won't be able to do everything in 2 minutes. http://audacity.sourceforge.net
