fail to connect to capture driver error

I just completed an installation of a new sony dru-800a dvd/cd burner plus koutech Firewire IEEE 1394 board. I installed the software that came with the burner (nero) and the video editing/capture software that came with the board (Ulead Videostudio 5.0). From device manager the device is ready with no conflicts. I'm using Win Xp with the latest updates and a Windows provided driver for the board. The problem is I am unable to capture video and I am seeing an 'Failed to connect to the capture driver' error from within Videostudio 5.0.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated. I have not setup a dv capture solution before.

I was able to get by this error and am now working on a solution to convert the *.avi file to another more compressed format for subsequent transfer to dvd. I do not know if VideoStudio does this or not.
