RE: Computer freezing here is more info

Sorry i did not give enough info before. I am using videostudio 9. When i preview my movie the computer freezes. My computer is a Windows xp home edition with service pack 2. Dell 2 GHZ Pentium 4 CPU, 768 MB ram and 100 GB free on my hard drive. The movie properties are
File size 1.8 Mb
Ntsc drop frame (29.97 fps)
Mpeg files
24 bits, 720X480, 29.97
Lower field first dvd-ntsc 4.3
video data rate: variable (max 8000 kbps)
LPCM Audio, 48000 Hz, stereo

When prevewing, the music continues to play but the pictures freeze after about 5 or 6 pictures. These are still images with transitions. When it freezes it says videostudio has encountered a problem and needs to close and it does. Is it possible when it kept closing it corrupted the file, and if that is the problem will i have to start from scratch? I hope i have given you enough info, Thanks a lot.

Hi..:)

I'm assuming that you're previewing in the Preview Window? If so, that is common behavior. It's just a representation of your project, transitions, filters etc...

There are some ways to improve this playback, a little. You can go to File>Preferances and set Playback to Best. You can also preview a project from Storyboard Mode, instead of Timeline. If in Timeline, Shrink "-" the timeline to fit into the window.

What I like doing to get a more accurate preview is go to Share>Project Playback. This gives a better quality.

Hope that helps...

I assume that it is a typo when you say the file size is only 1.8 MB (is that supposed to be GB?)

But as to your problem, have you actually burned your project to disc e.g. a re-writable one so you don't waste a disc if it doesn't look correct? If so, how does it look? Or have you produced a final DVD-compatible mpeg-2 of the slideshow and played it in another player?

The only other thing I can think of for the moment is that if it is only a slideshow, that you try using Frame Based instead of Lower Field First as the Field Order. You can select that by choosing 'MPEG-2' as the project format instead of 'DVD'.

Open Task Manager. In the Process tab, right-click on vstudio.exe, select 'Priority', then choose 'High' from the list. It'll speed things up, but make sure you close all running apps in the background.

I'm sorry, but changing the priority of the process won't help it finish any faster unless there is another extremely CPU-hungry process running.

Portraits eh!

May or may not help, worth a try to find out.
Make JPG High quality (10) copies of your images resized so that they fall within the 720X480 screen size. Use those in place of the bmp's

Let us know if this helps.
