SERIOUS AUDIO SYNC PROBLEMS!!
Hello,
i captured MPEG-2 files from VHS sources Witn a Leadtek card but whenever I try to author a
DVD using Ulead DVD Workshop 2,there have been serious audio sync problems.
This is not the first time I am using the software but I didn't have audio sync problems
before. The MPEG files I captured are imported unedited in DWS2.
I have tried repeatedly but with no luck...The most frustrating thing is that i never had
these problems before.
Any info will be highly appreciated!
kind regards,
Kiriakos
ps.my DVD settings:VBR 5000,Audio MPEG 224
system :AMD ATHLON 2800 xp,512 RAM, AUDIO CARD:Soundblaster LIve 1024

MPEG files have something called PTS - Program Time Stamps.
They sometimes get messed up. Try runing the MPG file through one of the two following products first - free trial versions are available.
1. Video Redo

2. Womble MPEG Video Wizard

Your problem may be due to the quality of the VHS tape. Try one that you know is in perfect condition and see how that goes.

Sam problem
I haD de same problem as I was capturing som VHS 1 hour videos, with canopus, first I did it direct to mpg2 stream and had very bad audio sync when authoring in DVD workshop then I tried acpturing to avi with canopus, trsforming to mpg but again had the same problem. The solution what to capture to avi than transform in separet streams mpg video and wav audio then import this to DVD workshop and click the convert to templet in de audio protion to convert the wav audioto ac3, and that solved de sync problem complitly
OK, I use a Canopus ADVC-100 for A>D conversion. 99.9% of the time, I've had no problems converting VHS to DV AVI through it. I have two tapes whose quality is such that I do have synch problems with them, because they cause dropped frames. I've little doubt that if I used a TBC, the problem would be ameliorated. However I don't have one and I cannot justify the expense for such a rare use.
With these bad tapes, I captured to DV type AVI in short snatches of a few minutes. In editing, I eliminated the parts where the drops were particularly bad, occasionally having to resynch the A and V, where this appeared critical.
I also have tried direct capture through the ADVC to MPG using the VC transcoding. On odd occasions, this has caused synch problems which did not occur during transfer of the DV stream directly to hard disk.
Conclusions:
a) Most of my synch problems were caused by the tape quality
b) Transfer of the DV stream to disk, as an AVI, caused fewer problems than transcoding the input to MPEG-2

Serios sync problem
I burned my movie with Nero and that worked perfectly. I wanted better menu features so I tried Ulead DVD Workshop 2. The sound gradually went out of sync! ( And I checked the option "Convert to disc template".) Ulead appears to have a serious problem.

Hi Steve,
That's a great description of video codecs. But there's another issue here: why does Nero produce a perfectly synced soundtrack while Ulead DVD Workshop fails at the same task? I used both programs to author the same video file. Surely there's problems in the Ulead encoder.
What do you think?
Regards,
David.

Now I bet you are going to tell me that ALL of the settings were identical in Nero. Bit rate, Audio, Compression Quality etc.
Hi Steve,
Are you suggesting that Ulead's sync problem could be solved by adjusting some settings? Nero's settings are automatic and produce no sync problem.

David.

The true answer is here mates, dont bother...just read
So, as our friend posted he had this audio synch problem...who hadn't sometime...?
Apart from the usual advices of having nothing running in the memory so as to cause probs..bla bla bala,
the secret is that the capturing comes from an analogue source..such like a VHS.
For 2 years, i did this thing, saved all my VHS archive to Mpegs, so listen carefully..i had the same prob, too.
You see when it comes to an analogue source, if u continue capturing after 1 hour or 70 mins the most, ---u wont see it---, but only when it comes to end, that the mpeg2 that has been created has already audio/video sync problem.
So, the solution, is just to stop capturing when 60-70 mins have been captured THE MOST, and then continue again capturing, but now, creating a new Mpeg2 file.
Inn this way 99,9% (0,01 is for bad luck), u wont face this problem again.
Believe me, my experience after all these years showed that its almost no use try to fix an Mpeg file with Audio/video sync problem...you will be lead to more complicated interfaced progs, and when u r not a super pro..u will find it very difficult to deal with.
In reality some softwares that try to fix such probs deal with AVIs and not Mpeg because of the uncompressed of their format..but its a headache, beleive me.
With the solution i suggested YOU LL ALWAYS BE ON THE SAFE SIDE ABOUT SUCH PROBS.
Of course, the quality of the source is a serious matter, but even with bad quality since the VHS is scrolling normally and has no conflicts (the video tape shows as tracking problem)...u wont face probs.
Finally, it must be mentioned that almost all DV files when captured to pc cards, or whatever through firewire (1394) never face audio sync probs, because of their privilege..of beiing Digital files and not Analogue ones..
Always happy to share my experience with u, and vice versa when it comes to my probs...
