Most, but not all, of the time you can rename a *.VOB to an *.MPG then load it directly to a DVD MPEG projects timeline in either MSPro or VideoStudio.

Presuming the renamed *.vob works as a proper MPEG file it should import into DVD authoring software as normal.

In DVD Workshop 2 you should un-check the box labeled "convert to disc template" on the Edit page in the presumption that the file is quite likely DVD compliant already.

I can't remember if DVD Workshop 1/1.3 had this checkbox on the Edit page or in the project settings like DVD MovieFactory.

As this is an MSP forum, if you have MSP8, you have an excellent "capture" of DVD files in Video Capture. It works vry well, whether from a non-copy-protected DVD or from DVD files on hard disk. (Also available in MF4)

Note that renaming VOBs to MPG does not always work; it depends on the content. It is not reliable as the multiplexing of audio in VOB is way different than in MPG. Even when it does work, you may have glitches. I don't recommend it.

There are also a host of DVD>MPG and DVD>AVI converters (some freebies) available on the Internet.

I agree that if's better to use the DVD capture plugin in Video Capture, but since the question was asked...
