Can an object be cloned as a layer over a base image in 8.0?

Post by RWP »

This is very simple in Photoshop but I can't find a way to do it in PI8. Whatever I add to the base image via the clone tool becomes part of it instead as a top (or any) layer. Any workarounds?

PS - I already did a search here and didn't find anything...

Thanks :)

There is an option in the Attributes toolbar that says "Paint as Object". It looks like lightning. Click on it and the resulting clone should be a separate object now instead of being a part of the base.

I have tried it both ways and it makes no difference. Paint works as it should (as an overlay if that button is depressed), so I must assume I have a corrupt installation of PI which prevents clone from working that way.

Thanks for the help, will post back after a reinstall of Windows and all.

Wow... you don't need to reinstall Windows perse. Start with a simple reinstallation of PhotoImpact... then go from there...

Ordinarily, I wouldn't reinstall Windows in this type of situation -- but in the past few months I have beta tested a bunch of new apps, and free trials of PI11, MSP8, PSE4, PS CS, and more. My system was getting pretty buggy and needed a fresh start.

Okay, problem solved! :) A fresh installation of Windows and PI did it. Thanks, 2log.

I did some browsing here and notice that you and Heinz-oz offer others a lot of help -- an often thankless task. Keep up the great work!

Now back to the Pinnacle forums where I spend much of my time helping others...
