Hey,
I am running an Athlon 64 3200+ PC with a gig of ram and an nVidia Geforce 6600 GT video card.
No matter what settings I use, whatever I import (or "capture") is all choppy no matter what I do. I am using the supplied Composite/S-Video adapter and a VHS machine running into the computer via USB.
I try to import the same thing on my other machine -- an Athlon XP 1800 with a 64 MB video card and 512 RAM. It runs very smoothly, and I'm using all the exact same settings and import properties. I have no idea why the importing works on my much older and somewhat outdated machine, and not on my brand new one.
Someone's paying me to have this project done soon so I need this fixed immediately!!! Please help if you can.
Also, I try updating Videostudio 8 (which IS the version I am running) and the setup program for the most recent update says that I DO NOT have Videostudio 8 installed on my machine. WHAT?? Then why am I running it RIGHT NOW? Again, any help would be sooooo awesome.
Thanks
Ben

I ran into a similar problem after installing the registered upgrade version of Ulead MF4. Tech-support emailed a link to DL the "full" version which (after uninstalling the upgrade and installling the "full") solved the "cannot find" problem. Unfortunately VS8 has been discontinued so I'm not sure how tech-support would handle that.
Re choppy capture, is this strictly related to captured video or do you have the same problem when importing a pre-existing clip?

It's only when importing. Even when I'm not capturing the video is all choppy. I've tried using both composite and S-Video with a VCR and also a Hi-8 camera. Both do the same, so it's some kind of software problem I assume. I've tried it at both high and low resolutions and the video is still extremely choppy either way. Makes no sense to me... I'm running a pretty high-end computer, when my old junker computer does fine. I'd just use my old one, but that would lead to other complications.
Any ideas?

I got caught on one of these the other day, with a video card which was also a capture card rolled into one. However, on going to the nVidia GeForce website, I could find no reference to your particular card also being an analog capture card. If this is indeed the case, then you would need an analog capture device to connect the VCR or Hi-8 camera to your computer... I can only imagine your older computer must have one of those...

Well sure, that's what I've been using... An ADS Tech capture device that uses USB to connect to the comp. It has an S-Video and the 3 video composite connectors. My video card is a capture card and has its own capture device, but it isn't working with Videostudio 8 for some reason. Not really sure how to fix it... but still, I'm not sure it would make a difference since it's still just a typical capture device. Ehh... maybe I'm overlooking something?
