Menu with pre-encoded Audio

Heya Folk,
SmartRender seems to work OK for normal content, but why does WS2 apply SmartRender to the Audio of a menu? It seems that it forces it to be re-encoded even when it's DVD compliant. ie I created an AC3 for my menu background audio, WS re-encoded it to MPEG L2 audio.
