Videostudio 9 - choppy rendering from MUSTEK DV5000 asf fil

I have been using Video Studio 8 very succesfully to join .asf files together, that are from my Mustek DV5000.

I've just downloaded the TBYB version of Studio 9 and the results are extremely dissapointing.
No matter what type of movie file I render to, it cuts the effective frame rate down to about 5 FPS. Original file is 10-15 FPS.

As I say, this all worked very well in VS 8.

Can someone tell me if this is a problem only with the trial version of VS 9 - or would I expect the same from the full product too?
