handling clips in VS 9

Post by randazzo »

If I capture from tape in AVI I choose to split the footage directly in clips.
Very handy because every clip occupies his own full bar (just below the preview window) with the clip handles. This give the opportunity to handle and trim the clips very fast.

Now I have a MPEG file which I divided in clips with the "split scene" option. This is much less handy because the bar per clip (in the preview window) shows as a small portion from the complete project. Now I have to watch every clip entirely to decide where the cut will come.

Is there a way to divide a big MPEG file in the same way as if capturing AVI from tape?

Thanks,
Jean-Pierre

Dear Jean-Pierre,

you can certainly divide your large MPEG file up into a number of smaller clips of a preset size, which may or may not suit your purposes.

With your large MPEG clip on the timeline, use "share", "create video file", "same as first video clip", and from the save dialogue box that appears, click on "options" and check the "create video file with specified duration:" box and input a value.

Make sure you have "Entire project" checked, together with "Perform smart render" and usually "Perform non-square pixel rendering".

You'll then create a number of files of that size plus a makeup file from the parent file.
