I bought & instaled PI 11 when it came out (cd version) -updating from PI 10. Had to reinstall several times before everything would work. Been ok since then - untill now!
Had a .tif photo & tried to use smart curves (have used it a lot before). Got the old "encountered and error and has to close" window. Now when I open PI 11 there are no menus or anything, just a blue bar at the top that says PhotoImpact & the gray bar at the bottom that with the mask, ruler etc. icons. I can get some windows to open using shortcut keys, but cannot get the file menu, tool bar or anything.
I tried running the "repair" from the disk but no help.
Anyone have any suggestions? I have some stuff I need to get done before Monday morning - bummer.
Thanks

re: new PI problem
You don't even see the "File Edit..." menus? If you at least do see them try reloading the workspace. Click on the menu "My Workspace" then choose from the available profiles there (Advanced, Standard, Photo, etc.).
If you don't see the any menu at all, then reinstall PhotoImpact. Don't just run repair or reinstall from the Add/Remove Programs" of Control Panel.
When you install a software, the installer extracts temporary files needed for the installation on a temp folder. These folders are usually:
C:\Windows\Temp
C:\Documents and Settings\[User Name]\Local Settings\Temp
If the temp folder holds old installer files that may be corrupted or are duplicates with the same filename but are used for a different software, it could cause a problem for your new installation of the software. Before you reinstall the software, make sure to clean the Temp folders.
The Local Settings folder is a hidden folder so you have to enable Windows Explorer to see hidden files and folders. Open Windows Explorer, go to Tools > Folder Options > View and check show hidden files and folders. You can now open the Temp folder from the Documents and Settings folder and delete the files there before you make a new install.
