VS9 - Capturing Issues
Hi Guys,
I'm using a Canopus ADV 1394 Capture Card & VS9
Sometime during capture I get Windows pop up box saying
Ulead VideoStudio has encountered problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
As the capturing starts I click on Disable Audio Preview. I have also tried to leave the audio capture on, this seems better, but also crashs
any one got any idea?

HELP!!!!
Dear sgronow,
sorry to hear that you continue to have problems.
I don't know what ntdll.dll is, other than an XP SP2 file. There are plenty of successful users with SP2, though.
You've probably already done this, but make sure that when you're capturing video you disable any programs that might automatically start - such as the antivirus, screen saver and so on. Also make sure that you are using an "always on" power setting that doesn't try to turn off the hard drives or go into standby after a preset time.
Otherwise, it strikes me from reading the forum topics that many capturing problems occur as a result of conflicts with other programs - particularly DLA packet writing software. You might check recent postings on that issue - and perhaps provide a list of installed programs on your pc.
Good luck!

Sorry 2Dogs
but in point of fact, I think that packet writing software like Nero's InCD only potentially causes conflicts with access to the computer's disc burner drive, not capture -- so I don't think that's the problem here.
Sgronow -- have you checked the Canopus website to see if there were any software/driver upgrades for your capture card to deal with SP2?

Sorry to sound the Cassandra again, but wide experience on this Board is that you can have versions 7, 8 and 9 all loaded together with no conflicts. You could of course try it, though be careful when unloading 8 as you could uninstall some shared files. After that, if you have the CD version of VS9, you can do a Repair. If not, you will need to reinstall VS9.

Hi Guys,
I saw this item/topic (http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=27) which I checked out
The following caught my eye.
Capture Phase
Analog Video
Most computers require an external capture box to which one can connect an analog signal source (S-Video or composite). These usually contain a fast, dedicated processor that converts the video to mpeg format and stores it directly in the computer’s hard disk, using either a Firewire (IEEE 1394) port or a USB2 port). These boxes can usually capture directly to Mpeg2 file format. Many analog capture products are not supported by Video Studio. If you have difficulty, use the capture software (e.g., CapWiz) that came with the box to capture the video files - then edit with Video Studio.
Digital Video (mini-DV)
Most digital camcorders have a Firewire connector and so can attach directly to a firewire port on the computer. Capture to Mpeg2 ONLY if you have a fast computer (>2.5 GHz, 1GB RAM, disk with > 20 GB of available unfragmented space) because the whole video editing process to DVD burn will be faster and simpler. If your computer CPU is slower than 2 GHZ, capture to AVI (DV) Type 1 because capturing in Mpeg 2 format puts too great a load on the CPU while capturing video in real-time. DV Type 1 is recommended because users have experienced problems with AVI Type 2. You can capture directly with Video Studio in the Capture module.
I'm Using the Canoptus ADC 1394 Capture Card which I'm using Svideo & L/R Audio (Therefore Analog)
Could this be my problem ?
Should I be using Firewire port and a Analog to Digital Convertor instead?
Thanks again

Hi sgronow
Is this the card you have installed
http://www.canopus.us/US/products/advc- ... ifications
Is this not an AV to DV converter.
You say you use s-video, have you tried ‘composite’ the yellow connector is video, the red/white is the audio.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
When you capture to VS 9 what capture format do you select.
If you select DV, does the format remain as DV or does it revert to Avi?

Hi Trevor,
This is the card that I'm using. It does not have a composite input. It uses a svideo to composite convert cable (approx 1" long)
I do not have the 1394BAY - therefore unable to run composite directly.
In VS9, It shows the capture device as
Unknown MSVD and the format is DV. if I change it to AVI it changes back to DV. However the file format is .avi when capturing.
Out of interest what capture card do you recommend for capturing analog video. I also sometimes use firewire, like once every 3 months.
Thanks
