capture with SONY HDR-FX 1

Post by thschmitt »

Hi,
I've a question:
is VideoStudio 8 able to capture from the new Sony Camcorder SONY HDR-FX 1 or do I need to upgrade the software first.

If upgrade is neccessary, how is it carried out?
do I need more Processor power to process the data from SONY HDR-FX 1

Thanks for your help

Without knowing the details or specifications of the camcorder it's difficult to answer. In general, VS8 can capture from any miniDV device perfectly; I think microDV is supported. If it is a DVD camcorder, you will find that it records in mpeg format directly onto the disc. In this situation you take the disc out of the camera, put it in the DVD drive of your computer, and select the Insert DVD/VCD option to get the video into the timeline.

Thomas,
I am green with envy if you have one of these HD camcorders.

You should have no trouble capturing ordinary DV quality video thru the firewire connector.

But that is not what you bought the camcorder for.

Unfortunately, capturing high definition video is (at least) going to exceed the bitrate capacity and the frame size dimensions of Video Studio 8. Moreover, I don't know if Sony uses a nonstandard GOP (like the JVC HD-1).

Ulead recently uttered some marketing words about supporting high def video editing in Media Studio. You might try that forum for any info.

Thomas,
I just visited the Media Studio forum and it already supports the high definition format of both the Sony and JVC camcorders.

BTW, the problems and complaints sound familiar...

The plugin from mainconcept has support for this
new HD camcorder.

Scroll down the page to the "MainConcept MPEG Pro Plugin"
