photo express NEVER works, why?

Post by jq_jou »

I have official version of express 4, after installation, everything looks fine, but it does not work, which means after you double click the shortcut, nothing comes up like nothing installed there.

Then i downloaded this express 6 trial version, after successful installation, i have the shortcut on desktop, shortcut of the calender at task pane, but it does not work, which is exactly same syptom like version 4.

MY OS is windows XP, i am administrator, i have norton internet security version, but what the heck? I can use all kinds of other softwares, none like this. What's the problem with this software? it's really wired.

Somebody can provide some idea? Thx!

This problem has been mentioned numerous times on this forum.

Run the program in compatibility mode. Right click on the program shortcut or the exe file and then select Properties->Compatibility Mode. Choose windows 98.

That can't be true. Whilst I don't have PExpress4 installed anymore, I did have it but it did not offer me anything useful over and above what PExplorer gives me. I certainly did not have to run it in compatibility mode and it works well under XP. Therefore, the problem has to be something else.

Please right click on your shortcut and select 'Properties'. You will get a window similar to this.

Please check if the "Start in" location is correct or post a screen shot (if you can, you need to have a location where you can host it on the internet, I believe). Next check: Please click on 'Find Target' and let us know what answer you get from your system.

I think, something has gone astray with your link database. Incidentally, what happens if you click "Start >All Programs > Ulead PhotoExpress" does the program start then?

I said, something similar, I couldn't show you Ipe.exe, since I do not have PE installed.

What happens when you click on 'Find Target'?
jq_jou

it goes directly to 'lIpe.exe'

it goes directly to 'lpe.exe', just point to the file in the folder, nothing else happens

That's expected, after all, you only asked it to find the target for you, not to start it. If you double click this file, does the program start (I daubt it but we have to make sure).

Go into windows explorer and do a search for lpe.exe (heck, I'm not even sure that is the correct executable for PE?). Make sure you let Expl look in the system files also and note down all incidences of that file. It's imperative that you get the full path for each file instance.

Let us know how you go.

Unfortunately I cannot look at your pictures. the links don't work.

Since none of the found ipe.exe files start the program, I feel we have a corrupted installation.

How did you install the program and where did it come from? Do you still have the installer?

On second thoughts, it could also be Norton stopping ipe.exe executing.

Personally I don't like Norton at all and don't have it installed. It was way to invasive for me and gave me nothing but problems in the past, similar to what you are experiencing actually.

Since I don't use it, I can't help you with it. I would suggest to temporarily disable it but seem to remember that it was next to impossible to do in the past. I don't want you to be connected to the internet with no protection on but I feel we need to look into this aspect. How conversant are you with Norton and its settings? Are you in a position to check it's settings to ensure there is nothing there to stop the execution of ipe.exe?

Hopefully, somebody, who likes and uses Norton, will come along to help with this.

That link works at least, just doesn't help me much since I cannot read chinese :? Didn't know you were located in Asia.

You are right, it is a weird problem. However, when installing an upgrade over a corrupted version, chances are the corrupted files are not overwritten by the installer.

Only remedy I could think off is to completely remove this program from your machine. Uninstall it in Control Panel >Add/Remove Programs, delete all related installation folders in My Documents for all user profiles present, purge your temp files and, if you are comfortable with this, remove every key and value pertaining to Ulead PhotoExpress, independent of the version, from your registry. Don't forget to make a backup first. Then reboot your system and do a fresh install.
