Hi: I have been using VS8 for about a year and everything works well.
I decided to install the trial version of the VS9 yesterday (I still keep the VS8 in my computer), and when I tried it,.... The VS9 seems to be working fine at first, but when I go to the editor and open any existing mpeg file that I have,.... the video will play but there is no sound at all...
When I go to the Audio tap "music&Voice" section, there is audio sound when I play any audio files. So it means the sound card and speaker are fine. And I closed the program and run VS8. Same thing,... no sound when I play mpeg files in the editor.
So I finally uninstalled the VS9, and try to run VS8 again, everything works fine now!
Anyone have this problem? I have a 2.4Ghz CPU and 1.5Gb RAM. I really want to upgrade to VS9, but I can't get it to work properly....
Thanks for any help....
Please Help! VS9 No sound when I open existing mpeg files

Hi
What are the video clip properties?
VS 9 supports Digital Dolby but I am not sure if you get the lot with the trial version.
When I used VS 9 trial the product was not that good and did not seem to have the functionality of the full version.
VS 8 and DD was intermittent, I had to reinstall Digital Dolby a few times to keep it working.
When you say you import an existing mpeg file, are you using the import folder option bottom left, or are you opening an existing project (vsp).
Once I upgraded everything worked fine.

Thanks for your help.... But I was simply using the Load Video in VS9 to open some of my exisitng video (they are either VCD or DVD resolutions). There is no audio sound while playing the file in VS9 (or the VS8 after VS9 was installed). But if I exit VS9 and just play the Mpeg files using the same old Media Player.... they works fine.....
Seems like something in VS9 is blocking the audio sound of the mpeg files...
Thanks.....

I'm getting the same symptoms with a newly-purchased VS8; properties of an imported DVD clip say digital Dolby audio, but nothing on the timeline and nothing heard. Perhaps some sort of driver/helper program problem? Sound on the puter is otherwise OK, and an imported AVI clip works fine, though I'm _way_ down on the learning curve!

Hi Gary
Video Studio 8 does not support Digital Dolby.
So if your imported Dvd has Digital Dolby as its audio then you will hear nothing.
Ulead produced a plug-in (uvs8_powerpack_ac3_e.exe) to allow DD within VS 8.
Your money would be best spent upgrading to Version 9 which does support Digital Dolby.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There is an AC3filter (ac3filter_1_01a_rc5.exe)
Which is a free download, but it only allows you to play the Dolby sound.
You will not be able to recode your audio using this filter.
Search the web for AC3filter
Hope this Helps

Weeelll, this helps, sort of. And explains why I found VS8 heavily discounted. After reading some reviews, I'm not as all sure whether I should throw another US$50 at it or back up and start over; my computer power (2.2GHz) would be marginal at best for VS9, and I was going to hold off buying myself another until _after_ that cruise!
Cheers,
