Black bars when recording onto VCR

Post by aski »

Hi.

I've been trying to record a video onto my VCR using a nVidia Personal Cinema 5200. Then I used the function "File"->"Record to tape" (don't know if thats the correct menu title because I'm using the german version) but when recording I get a letter boxed video on the tape (black bar on top and bottom) even though it is a normal 4:3 video.

Anyone got any idea?!

Thanks very much.

Alex,

please check the settings of your project file (should be either PAL-DVD 4:3 or DV1 or DV2 PAL 720x576 4:3, the video file format (is that equal ?) and the settings of your nvidia for your tape recorder.

I asume, that your nvidia will produce the 16:9 or letterbox effect.

Hope that helps

Martin,

thanks for your answer. I already checked the settings of the project file. Looks good to me. Equals the mpg file. I'll try that again though just for verification.

I also assumed it might be the nvidia driver but could not find an appropriate setting.

Additionally: If I use Windows Media Player to playback the video then I don't get the letterbox effect. So that again looks like it must be something within Video Editor. I'd prefer using the Video Editors "Record on tape" function because the playback of WMP looks pretty rough to me.

If you have any other ideas please let me know.

Thanks a lot

Alex,

it looks that yiou have hooked on your TV directly to the nVidia.

You must enter the Dual Head options of your nVidia Setup (either in Systemeinstellungen - Anzeige - Einstellungen - Erweitert - GeForce or in your system tray). Mostly the settings only comes up, when something is hooked onto the output port.

There you can change and modify the TV-output settings.

I cannot verify this anymore here, because i have hooked on analog and digital PC-monitors on my nVidia, but i have seen the settings on my trials before.

Within Media Studio you should check in addition the Dual head option and the Formats of "Wiedergabeoptionen". Here should be select DUAL Head. That again you only will see, if a Dual head configuration is found.
In Options you may change the format (or somewhere else) - i don't have access to that with my configuration.

But on the Ulead sites you will find tutorials which describes the handling for Dual Head operation as well as in the manual (printed or in *.pdf).

Hi Martin & all,

solved that problem: The reason I couldn't get a full overscan was because the screen resolution of my monitor was too high.
I changed it to 800x600 (to match the resolution of the TV output) and then I was able to adjust the picture properly with the nVidia driver.

Thanks for your help.
