Hi,
Im trying to capture my holiday vids from my Sony TRV828E via firewire. I have tried capturing in DV/AVI/MPG formats. My capture plug-in is set to Ulead DirectShow Capture Plug-in. Video format is 720x576, DV Type 1, PAL.
When I playback the captured footage it looks a though everything has small lines that running off the edges. This happens to be more noticeable when viewing panning shots.
Any help appreciated ....
Thanks,
David

I wish I had a dollar for everytime we had to respond to the very same question from different people.
Please read here http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=5758 and, after you have done that, search this forum and also look at the general forum, the MSP, forum the MF forum, heck, all forums concerned with moving pictures. if you still have questions after that, well, we'll see

I wonder if you could get a dollar for the very same question from the same peopleheinz-oz wrote:I wish I had a dollar for everytime we had to respond to the very same question from different people.
I have had a browse of various forms but ... heck ... I thought I ask the knowledgeable and friendly forum members ....
It looks though I will go and spend the next 2 weeks reading every forum as requested ..... YEAH RIGHT !!!
Nice see to see the welcome to forum - especially for my 1st post ...
Maybe hein-oz needs to read point 2 of http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=5758 especially the "pleasant and enjoyable" bit.
Have a nice day ....

Hi David
The best method of capturing your footage from your digital camera is via Firewire to DV.
From the capture window select DV as the format.
From the options tab select Dv-Type 1.
This process of transferring your footage needs no re-coding, what you have in your camera is copied to the pc. There should be no loss of quality.
OK
From File / Preferences tick ‘show messages when inserting first……….
Start a NEW project now.
After capture a window will prompt you to change the settings, select ‘details’ to view the properties, What are the Video Properties? Select yes. (this only happens once on every NEW project)
Your project properties will change to reflect the video properties.
------------------------------------------
The playback quality of the preview screen is not all that good, especially when viewing in project mode.
Does viewing in clip mode improve things.?
Read this post with regards to playback quality, you should try ‘high quality playback’ to see if it improves things.

Test the quality of your captured file using Real Player, Power Dvd, Media Player, Quicktime etc. If ok then I would think its just the project playback and not the file.

Capture using a firewire and use the DV format.
On the preview screen it is normal for your pictures to appear a bit jagged
as it is only a "quick preview" display. If you render the file and then watch that, you should have a crystal clear picture.

Hi David G
To add to what sjj1805 said (which is quite true) a common cause for this problem is a field order mismatch. By convention, if you are capturing via firewire it should be lower field first. Make sure that your properties are set to that, and stick to it throughout the editing process, and you should be right.
Cheers
