Ulead Video Studio/Movie Factory destory Media Center 2005 ?

Post by ishare »

Anybody here has successfully installed Ulead Video Studio or Movie
Factory on a Windows Media Center 2005 PC?

After installation, I got the following error message:

"Media Center Receiver Service has ecnountered a problem and needs to
close, We are sorry for the inconvenience!"

At the same time, the ehrecvr.exe process is using 100% CPU power, and
you can not kill it, after you shut down the process, a new
"ehrecvr.exe" pop up immediately, it is like Agent Smith who can
replicate himself endlessly.

Please share your thoughts!

I'm sure it's an issue with the MS way of enforcing anti pirating measures. At least, that would not surprise me.

What do Microsoft have to say to this?

That is an interesting thought.

but I don't think that is the reason.

Hi there Ishare,
Do a search on Google for ehrecvr.exe and you will see that you are not alone. It appears that all sorts of video editing software are experiencing the problem you described.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Windows Media Center 2005 PC have its own VideoEditing and DVD authoring programs? It's probably the way Microsoft 'forces' owners to use their own software rather than third-party ones. Hmmm... :?

I have MC 2005 and I'm using VS 9.0 with no problems at all. So perhaps the problem is somewhere else.

I did some searching and found (as RichardB previously mentioned), apparently ehrecvr.exe can indeed conflict with various multimedia programs (some capture apps among them). When ehrecvr.exe is manually terminated or disabled through Windows task manager, XP MCE will immediately re-launch the process IF it is needed by specific MCE applications that are currently running. If one is somehow able to identify and close the MCE applications that require ehrecvr.exe, the process can finally be disabled, allowing the formerly conflicting programs to run smoothly until the process is re-launched by MCE. So apparently it CAN be done with some effort ;-)

I don't have MCE and can't verify any of the above but there seems to be some consensus among those who've posted similar issues.

ULEAD need to look into this

Post by AndrewPeel »

I think the problem is with the ULEAD software because when the videoplus software is uninstalled the problem goes away. The error does not occur with any other video editing software. Also the other common link is Haupage TV Tuner cards - considering how common these are then ULEAD should have been able to check this. I have been unable to get ULEAD to take this seriously but they blame MS and MCE. Given that it always stops when VideoStudio 10 is uninstalled and does not happen with versions prior to 10 then I think ULEAD must take this more seriously than they have to date.

I have neither UVS 10 nor MCE, so I can't try this for myself, but...

...try downloading Microsoft's MPEG Decoder Checkup Utility, and run it. It will tell you what MPEG decoders are installed, and if they are compatible with MCE. It will also let you change the default decoder. If the default is NOT the Microsoft decoder, I would change it.

VS and MCE

Post by Ilene »

I have been using VS9 with MCE for a long time now and haven't had any conflicts. I don't use the TV tuner part of MCE. I still capture all my TV using a DVR box and a DVD recorder. I never set up the TV tuner because Ulead was working so beautifully that I was afraid to tamper with it. It wasn't critical for me, so I didn't bother.

I purchased VS10 plus but haven't had a chance to load it yet. I hope it doesn't create a conflict that I didn't have with VS9.

Purchased a new pc in Jan 2004 with MCE & VS has worked well since installed. I didn't notice any conflicks with MCE. As a foot note, I don't use MCE in conjuction with VS, meaning I don't record TV shows.

I have XP and Media Center 2005 and Video Studio 10 installed with no problems and functions correctly. It conflicted with Roxio so I ditched that, but everything good since.
