Hi Guys,
When editing my avi in DVD WS I can only add chapter points if the Locate I-Frame box is ticked. Any reason?

In DVD WS, you only get the option to add chapter points at the I-Frames -- DVD specifications are that each chapter point be on an I-frame.

Forgive me but I am new to this but when is a frame marked as an I-Frame? Problem is the I-Frames are not at the beginning of a new scene. For example if I took some video of a beach and then on another date a walk in the woods the I frame is a few frames into the wood walk footage not at the beginning.

Maybe advanced encoders allow you to set a specific frame to be an i-frame, but not the ones I have played with. It is all in the innards of the compression algorithms.
You either have to live with the few frames on either side of your ideal frame (usually no more than 1/6 second) or when editting your video, add fades to black between your chosen chapter points.
