No audio with MF4 direct capture from TV Tuner card

Post by garybog »

When I use capture video on MF4, all I get is the video, no audio in the preview or the recorded file. I'm using a HP Pavilion m7100y Media Center which came with a Conexant 23880 Video Capture (Blackbird NTSC Dual-Input) and MCE update 2 and all current updates from HP & Microsoft are installed. Here comes the peculiarity...I can get the preview with audio with Sonic MyDVD Plus 6, Media Center and two of the tools provided with Microsoft Media Center Diagnostic Tool 2.5, the Encoder API WHQL Test and the MPEG Encoder Test all play TV with audio. MF4, Microsoft Windows Media Encoder 9, Movie autoProducer 4 and Windows Movie Maker preview & record only the video. The only audio device options on the pulldown are Line in/Mic in or Realtek HD Digital input. If I select Line in/Mic in the input source, the options on the pulldown are CD Player, Line In 1 or 2, Microphone or Stereo Mix. None of the combinations produce audio. Changing the Cpature Plug-in form Ulead DSW MPEG Capture Plugin to Ulead DirectShow Capture Plugin has no effect and the Capture audio box is checked. Any suggestions or explanations? Thanks, Gary

In MF you select the correct audio input to record on.
The input (usually Line-IN) must also me selected to record on in
either the windows record mixer or you soundcard software's mixer.

Usually these software mixers (windows) default to the mic input.

If you have any cables that route from the hardware's capture device into
the soundcard (usually a cable from the capture device into the sound
card's "Line-In'). Make sure whatever port you have the cable plugged
into you assign that same port to record on in the windows/soundcards
mixer AND in MF.

The only options for the Record Device are Realtek HD Digital and Line in/Mic in on either the Windows record mixer or the soundcard mixer. There are no cables that I can see coming out of the Conexant TV tuner card. Interestingly, on the Sonic MyDVD Plus Record Settings, the audio device and line are blank. The Microsoft diagnostic tools have no device selections at all nor does Media Center. All those software preview and/or record audio fine. It seems that whenever an option of the audio source is available, the audio doesn't work.
