usb video capture problems

Post by bassguitar »

I have VS7 that I currently use with a Sony Mini DV Handycam.

I've used sucessfully in the past, however I'm now encountering problems. I got VS7SE Basic with a Firewire card I bought. For some reason I've never been able to get VS7 to recognize the camera through the DV/Firewire port, so I've been using the USB stream output. The firewire does however work with my iPod.

Like I said, it used to work fine a few months ago. I tried it again last night, and the audio caputures fine, but the video is all pixelated and looks terrible. I'm not sure what's up. There are no major differences to my machine, other than a new HDD, and a few simple programs. The video looks like that on preview before capturing, and then after capture.

Help!

When you tried it the last time, did you still use USB? Don't expect the video to be as high a quality as video captured using Firewire.

I don't think there's problem with the firewire card. Maybe it's in the cable? Try using a different capture software (Windows Movie Maker is a basic and a more accessible choice) to test if you can capture using Firewire.
